Through Thursday, they’d won five straight and eight of 10. Everything is clicking; they still lead the majors in offense, paced by major-league home run leader Mark Teixeira, but their pitching is also heating up. The Yanks have held opponents four runs or fewer in six straight games.
It also helps that the staff gets Bartolo Colon back from injury on Saturday against the Mets. He was quite the comeback story before hitting the DL with a hamstring strain. The numbers suggest this is vintage Colon. He has 72 strikeouts in 78.1 innings and an outstandingly low 18 walks. That stem-cell shoulder surgery really was something.
New York Mets (41-40 through June 30)
Dillon Gee (8-1, 3.32)
It probably won’t matter in the end since they share a division with the Phillies and Braves, but the Mets have turned some headS with their play of late, going 7-2 over their last nine games. Jose Reyes, possibly the National League MVP frontrunner, has been the catalyst, batting .352 through Thursday with 65 runs scored and 30 steals.
Dillon Gee has also been quite the contributor. The rookie is holding opponents to a .217 average and has lost just once in 12 starts this season.

Love the Mets odds for this game. Colon has been great but he could be rusty coming back from the DL. Also, as well as he’s pitched, homers are still a bugaboo for him and the Mets are hitting them in bunches. On the other side of things, Gee has done a great job keeping the ball in the park, allowing just five bombs in 76 innings.
That bodes well against not only a power team, but a team that hasn’t seen him before. Go with the Mets on Saturday.
