MLB Predictions: Odds to Win the 2014 World Series / Favorites

Betting MLB Futures

With the 2013 MLB season in the books, it time to peer into our crystal balls to see which team may emerge and become next year`s Boston Red Sox. The two favorites to claim the crown next year each made strong bids this year only to lose in six games in their respective League Championship Series.

Here is a look at the Vegas odds from [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′] for a few of the top contenders and what could play out in October 2014.

Los Angeles Dodgers 7/1

There isn`t a more talented team top to bottom in the NL. Clayton Kershaw is the most dominant ace in the game and his supporting cast is top notch as well. As far as the position players on the roster, the Dodgers are the envy of the league – resigning Juan Uribe will be key but outside of that the Dodgers are set.

A possible distraction looms however – what will Don Mattingly do?

Detroit Tigers 9/1

Jim Leyland has retired from the game leaving an enormous hole at Manager for the Tigers but there is little doubting the talent in every aspect of the Tigers’ game. The pitching staff led by Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer (who could actually be traded this offseason) and names like Cabrera, Fielder and Hunter make up one of the more impressive offensive rosters in the game.

Boston Red Sox 10/1

The Red Sox entered 2013 at 25/1 to win the World Series! Congrats to those that threw down before the season. Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Napoli and Stephen Drew are all free agents and this team certainly isn`t getting any younger especially the pitching staff.

I don`t love the Sox at this price… but then again I said almost exactly the same thing last year!

St. Louis Cardinals 10/1

As far as young talent especially on the pitching staff, the Cards looked mighty impressive in this year`s World Series holding the Red Sox to a .211 batting average. Adam Wainwright is a legitimate ace and the emergence of youngsters like Michael Wacha gives this team instant credibility.

All major players except for possibly Carlos Beltran (who I think the Cards will re-sign) are back with the club next year with some valuable experience under their belts. Translation – look out for the Cards!

Washington Nationals 10/1

Another team with a new manager – Matt Williams is in – Davey Johnson is out for the Nats. They are viewed as one of the more complete teams in baseball but have been unable to put it all together so far. Replacing Dan Haren in the rotation will be key as will the unpredictable health of Bryce Harper.

Atlanta Braves 16/1

Ran away with the NL East last year but should have a little more competition from the Nats this year. Brian McCann, Tim Hudson and Paul Maholm may not be back and the Uptons and Jason Heyward don`t have a lot of help behind them.

Cincinnati Reds 16/1

Will be motivated to avenge their loss in the Wild Card round. Dusty Baker is out as manager and new Manager Brian Price is in. He inherits a terrific lineup but one that has fallen short the last couple of years. The Reds have to find replacements for Shin-Soo Choo and Bronson Arroyo which could be an issue.

New York Yankees 16/1

Your guess is as good as mine!

Oakland Athletics 16/1

Billy Ball lives! This team will find a way to be competitive again. Do they have the talent to win it all though?
