Philadelphia Phillies (8-5) vs. Atlanta Braves (8-5)

7 :10 PM ET on ESPN

Starting Pitchers

PHI: R. Halladay (3-0, 1.12)
ATL: T. Hudson (1-0, 2.84)

Chipper Jones vs. Doc Halladay. Sounds like a good old-fashioned western, as the Braves try to gun down the reigning National Champs in game two of an NL East showdown on Wednesday night at Turner Field.

Nate McLouth’s walk off homer to deep right in the 10th inning lifted the Braves to a 4-3 win in the series opener on Tuesday.

Trailing 3-0 in the ninth, Atlanta closed to within one on a two out two-run homer from Troy Glaus that was immediately followed by a solo blast to deep right center from none other than rookie sensation Jason Heyward.

Heyward is batting a little better than .300 with 16 RBIs and three HRs in 13 games, including a walk-off base hit against the Rockies on Sunday. The Braves right fielder is sure to be a Rookie of the Year candidate.

The Phillies’ Chase Utley has now reached base safely (17 hits, 13 walks) in all 13 games this season, while slugger Ryan Howard is still struggling going 1-for-5 with a single RBI in Tuesday’s contest.

Now the Phillies will bust out the big guns, as Roy Halladay takes the mound in game two. Since Canada’s baseball son was traded to the Phillies from the Blue Jays, sending Cliff Lee to the Mariners in a four-team bonanza that included seven prospects, the veteran righty has gone a perfect 3-0 to start his 2010 campaign with Philadelphia.

“Doc” picked up right where he left off last year recording his first win in his season debut against the Nationals 11-1.

The 32-year old followed up with a complete game win against Houston and then an 8-6 result over the Florida Marlins in his first game at Citizens Bank Park in a Phillies uniform.

Now he will face a team that he has only faced one other time, going 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA.

Atlanta will answer with right-handed pitcher Tim Hudson in Wednesday’s contest.

The 35-year old veteran is 4-6 with an ERA of 3.79 in 15 career starts against the Phillies.

He is coming off a 6-2 victory at San Diego on Thursday where he gave up two runs in 5-2/3 innings.

The Phillies won 14 of 18 games against Atlanta in 2008, but the Braves got the better of the Philadelphia as the only NL East team to win a season series in 2009, going 10-8.

Philadelphia vs. Atlanta Odds

Odds makers have the Phillies as –1-½ – favorites with a run total of 7 ½.

Phillies vs. Braves Free MLB Pick: I expect the Phillies to take game two behind a solid performance from Halladay and the UNDER.
