Philadelphia Phillies vs Atlanta Braves – Tuesday, April 20th 7:10 P.M

The Philadelphia Phillies travel to Turner Field in Atlanta to begin a three game series against the Braves starting tonight at 7:10 P.M.
Everything was rolling along fine for the Phillies until the Florida Marlins showed up for a three game series in Philadelphia. In Friday’s game, after Roy Halladay pitched another gem building an 8-2 lead, an eighth and ninth inning collapse by the bullpen almost cost them the game as they had to hold on for an 8-6 victory.
On Saturday and Sunday, the red hot Philly bats finally cooled down as they ran into some excellent pitching.
Saturday they could only manage one run in a 5-1 loss and on Sunday they were shutout 2-0. While you could not expect them to keep up an eight run a game average against better competition, the crash was swift and hard. The good news about their last game was that Cole Hamels looked impressive in his eight innings of work.
Tonight they will try and get back on track in their first meeting this season against the Braves. Kyle Kendrick will get the start in hopes of reversing his early troubles this season. So far in two starts he has given up 12 hits and 11 earned runs in only 5 ½ innings of work. If the Phillies bats decide to take another night off they could be in trouble in this one.
Atlanta started the season by winning two out of three from the Cubs, but lost two out of three to the Giants in their next series.
Since then they have taken their last two series against the Padres and the Rockies heading into their first action against an opponent in their own division. 
So far they have been up, down, and everywhere in between. In their home opener they scored 16 runs in the win. The following week they gave up 17 runs in the Padres home opener. They are still looking for the right mix between run production and runs allowed, but with Tommy Hanson getting the start they may have a chance at accomplishing that tonight.
In his first two outings he has given up eight hits and only three runs in 11 ½ innings for an ERA of 2.38.
One cause of concern is that he has not fared as well against Philadelphia in the past. He is 0-2 with a 6.43 ERA lifetime against them.
If players like Martin Prado and Jason Heyward continue to produce like they have so far the Braves could find themselves in a tie for first after tonight.
Atlanta is one team the Phillies have struggled with in the past and is the only team in the East they had a losing record against last season, going 8-10. With Kyle Kendrick on the mound tonight, I do not have a ton of confidence in his ability to straighten things out against a team like the Braves.
