Florida Marlins vs Philadelphia Phillies – Friday, April 16th 7:05 P.M

Baseball Gambling Lines:

Florida +220
Philadelphia -260

The Marlins and the Phillies play the first of a three game weekend series tonight at Citizens Bank Park with the first pitch slated for 7:05 P.M.

Florida opened their season against the Mets and lost 7-1, but managed to win the next two games of the series. The lost their home opener to the Dodgers, but came back to win the next two games to win that series as well. They lost the first two games of four game series to Cincinnati but bounced back to win the next two and are now 6-4 on the year. They will look to reverse this trend in this first of three games against the Phils.

Right hander Anibal Sanchez gets the start tonight and for look for a better effort than his first outing when he gave up seven hits and five runs in six innings of work. Lifetime against the Phillies he is 2-4 with an ERA of 5.40.

Offensively the Marlins have been led by Jorge Cantu, who has already knocked in 15 runs and has at least one hit and one RBI in each of the first 10 games. Cody Ross, who is batting .310 with eight RBI’s and Hanley Ramirez, who is batting .333 and has scored seven runs are also off to a great start. With this kind of production they should be able to help Sanchez should he get off to another rough start.

The Phillies have been a scoring machine so far this season, averaging close to eight runs a game in their first nine outings. Granted this performance has been against Washington and Houston, so tonight they step up in class when they host Florida for the first time this year.

While the rest of the Phillies pitching staff has not put forth their best effort so far, new ace Roy Halladay certainly has. He will make his third start for his new team and in his first two games he has recorded two wins, one complete game, and an ERA of 0.56 making the home town fans quickly forget about Cliff Lee.

While Jimmy Rollins is on the 15 day DL with a calf strain, players like Ryan Howard (.335 average, 13 RBI’s, and three HR’s), Placido Polanco (.475 average, 11 RBI’s, and 13 runs), and Chase Utley (.343 average, 11 RBI’s, and five HR’s) are off to a monster start and the entire lineup presents a pure nightmare for any pitcher they face.

The Phillies are coming off a rough 7-5 loss to the Nationals as the bullpen collapsed in the eighth to blow a three run lead. With Halladay on the mound this should not be an issue tonight as the Phillies grab game one against the next best team in their division.
