Baseball Gambling: Cappers Picks Baseball Playoff Power Rankings

Baseball Handicapping Tips

The MLB Gambling regular season has come to a close. With the playoffs set to begin this week, it is important for bettors to place an added emphasis on preparation and research given the short cards available on the diamond, though with football underway and hockey and basketball about to get started, the baseball playoffs can still present an opportunity to find value.

With that said, it’s these opinions we formulate that help us to build the foundation of a profitable postseason.

MLB Stats

Here are the power rankings entering the 25th week of the MLB schedule.

1. Los Angeles Angels (98-64)

The Angels have absolutely torn the cover off the ball over the last couple months of the season. Sometimes, hot-hitting teams can fold under the pressure of the postseason when every pitch is so important, and they could really use Garrett Richards atop the rotation right now.

If Josh Hamilton were hitting like he did in Texas, that would be something.

2. Washington Nationals (96-66)

The Nationals have been on a tear in the month of September and will have home field advantage right through to the World Series. They’ve built a starting rotation specifically assembled for postseason success, and now they get to show it off.

3. Baltimore Orioles (96-66)

The Orioles have been able to overcome a litany of injuries and a significant suspension to run away with the AL East. Now it’s time to translate that into postseason success. Chris Tillman will be fine atop the postseason rotation, but things get a little murky after that.

4. Los Angeles Dodgers (94-68)

The Dodgers are rolling right along, seeming to hit their stride right around September each season. There’s no question as to who will be getting the ball in Game 1 for them. The only question is whether Clayton Kershaw will win the MVP.

5. Detroit Tigers (90-72)

The Tigers’ bats have picked up their pace again. It’s scary to think what they can do if all of their elite starting pitchers get on a roll. To have the assets to be able to throw out David Price on the final day of the regular season is astounding.

6. Pittsburgh Pirates (88-74)

The Pirates will enter the postseason as the hottest team in baseball, and they’ll need to continue that momentum to get through a tough National League. Josh Harrison has been a revelation atop the team’s batting order, while Andrew McCutchen has earned himself some back-to-back MVP consideration.

7. St. Louis Cardinals (90-72)

The Cardinals were forced to send out ace Adam Wainwright on the final day of the regular season which could hamstring them some in the postseason. Yadier Molina still hasn’t quite looked like his old self since returning from injury.

8. Seattle Mariners (87-75)

Logan Morrison was an absolute beast down the stretch to really give the team’s playoff push some legs. Spending all that money on Robinson Cano is looking like a good move now. It will be interesting to see how they fare next season when they begin April with the confidence of knowing they belong.

9. Kansas City Royals (89-73)

The team is finally headed back to the playoffs. Bringing in James Shields last season doesn’t look like such a bad move now as he’s really established himself as a true ace and big-game guy who could be the difference in winning or losing a series – or getting a series in the first place.

10. San Francisco Giants (88-74)

The Giants’ rotation is a mess right now, and the offense isn’t scoring runs with the kind of consistency they need. Bringing in Jake Peavy via trade is looking like a genius move as he’s compiled a 2.20 ERA in his return to the National League.

11. Oakland Athletics (88-74)
12. Cleveland Indians (85-77)
13. Milwaukee Brewers (82-80)
14. Toronto Blue Jays (83-79)
15. New York Yankees (84-78)
16. New York Mets (79-83)
17. San Diego Padres (77-85)
18. Tampa Bay Rays (77-85)
19. Miami Marlins (77-85)
20. Cincinnati Reds (76-86)
21. Atlanta Braves (79-83)
22. Chicago White Sox (73-89)
23. Chicago Cubs (73-89)
24. Philadelphia Phillies (73-89)
25. Boston Red Sox (71-91)
26. Minnesota Twins (70-92)
27. Texas Rangers (67-95)
28. Houston Astros (70-92)
29. Colorado Rockies (66-96)
30. Arizona Diamondbacks (64-98)
