MLB Predictions – 2014 World Series Picks | Betting Odds

MLB Betting – World Series Futures Update

Many pitchers and catchers will report to their respective teams in just under two weeks as the 2014 MLB seasons nears ever closer. The rosters for most teams have taken shape, though a few significant free agents still remain on the market.

Here’s a look at five of the favorites that could break through this upcoming season, and five teams installed at longer odds that could offer up some serious value.

Detroit Tigers +850

Even with the departure of Doug Fister, the Tigers will still send out one of the best starting rotations in the American League, and they’ve finally shored up the back end of their bullpen with the addition of Joe Nathan. Rajai Davis is an addition that won’t draw of a lot of headlines but will really help on the field.

Miguel Cabrera will be without his ‘Bash Brother’ this season, but expect the Tigers’ offense to keep on rolling.

New York Yankees +1400

Fresh off missing the playoffs last season, the Yankees of course made some significant splashes, adding free agents Brian McCann, Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran, and Masahiro Tanaka. Lesser adds like Kelly Johnson, Brian Roberts, Brendan Ryan, and Matt Thornton will also help to turn things around in a hurry for the Yankees.

The return of Michael Pineda could also prove to be a difference-maker at the back end of the team’s rotation.

Texas Rangers +1400

The Rangers know they play in one of the most home run friendly ballparks in the majors and made some additions in the offseason that will help them continue to offer fans in the outfield seats with a steady stream of souvenirs. Prince Fielder and J.P. Arencibia should put up solid home run numbers, while Shin-Soo Choo would be a great addition to any team.

The addition of Daniel Bard and Rafael Perez will offer much-needed bullpen depth.

Cincinnati Reds +1800

The Reds could have been something special over the last few years if they just stayed out of their own way. A managerial change has been needed and it finally came in the offseason, though it would have been nice to see them go outside the organization.

Still, all the pieces are in place, so if the right buttons are pushed at the right times, the Reds could finally break through.

San Francisco Giants +1800

Not a lot of changes in San Francisco, though additions like Tim Hudson and David Huff will help keep runs off the board. The team’s troubles have been with respect to scoring runs and the addition of Michael Morse will help there.

With a winning pedigree, San Francisco could make some noise this season.

Toronto Blue Jays +2800

It would have been nice to see the team follow up the momentum they built last offseason with some significant moves this year. Swapping out J.P. Arencibia for Dioner Navarro seems like a lateral move, though there is still time to go after a guy like Ubaldo Jimenez or Ervin Santana. The team can put runs up on the board, and could offer value as a post-hype sleeper this season.

Baltimore Orioles +3300

The Orioles have had trouble keeping runs off the board in recent years, and shipping Jim Johnson out of town is only going to hurt that cause.

Adding A.J. Burnett would be a great boon to the organization, though they need to stop searching for innings-eaters and start finding pitchers that can get guys out and win them games when their offense doesn’t show up.

Kansas City Royals +3300

The Royals loosened the purse strings this offseason with the additions of Jason Vargas and Omar Infante. Adding Norichika Aoki was a shrewd move as well. There is plenty of talent on the roster, but most of the team’s key players haven’t reached their primes yet.

Once they figure things out, the Royals will go back to being a power in the American League.

Arizona Diamondbacks +4000

Adding Mark Trumbo is going to add some lineup protection for Paul Goldschmidt that just wasn’t there before, and could take the Arizona offense to another level. The addition of Addison Reed will help the back end of the team’s bullpen as close games are a staple of N.L. West play.

Milwaukee Brewers +5000

Matt Garza helps solidify a rotation that’s better than many people think, and the additions of Lyle Overbay and Mark Reynolds help to bring some veteran leadership to a young lineup.

An overlooked boon to the team’s lineup is the return of Ryan Braun who was playing like his old self before sitting down last season.

Here are the odds for the rest of the league.

Atlanta Braves +1800

Boston Red Sox +1000
Chicago Cubs +4000
Chicago White Sox +4000
Cleveland Indians +3300
Colorado Rockies +6600
Houston Astros +20000
Los Angeles Dodgers +600
Los Angeles Angels +1600
Miami Marlins +10000
Minnesota Twins +7500
New York Mets +6600
Oakland Athletics +1800
Philadelphia Phillies +3300
Pittsburgh Pirates +2500
San Diego Padres +5000
Seattle Mariners +1800
St. Louis Cardinals +1100
Tampa Bay Rays +2300
Washington Nationals +1000
