MLB Future Betting Odds: 2015 World Series Sportsbook Predictions

Handicapping 2015 World Series Betting Odds

With every big signing or trade these odds adjust. The most recent was being the Max Scherzer deal that has put Washington as the odds on favourite to be the next World Series Champion.

No big surprise there really.

Let’s take a look, team by team, at some of the favourites.  Indicated as well is whether there is strong value with the odds being posted.

Here is a look at the teams with the best valued odds to win the World Series.

Washington Nationals +650

With the addition of Scherzer I am not sure there is any debate about who has the strongest rotation in the Majors. However, if recent performances are any indicator, that is not always enough to get the job done…just ask Scherzer’s old team the Detroit Tigers. They deserve these odds but I wonder if their lineup is still a little light. They are still relying on guys like Jayson Werth hoping that Bryce Harper fulfills his destiny.

There is some value here because there is no way this team should miss the playoffs.

Los Angeles Dodgers +700

The Dodgers have retooled a bit but look very strong to win the NL West. They have a very good rotation, have cleared up things a little in the outfield, and their new middle infield combo of Jimmy Rollins and Howie Kendrick should produce way more offensively than what they had last year. If Yasiel Puig rebounds or Joc Pederson proves he is the real deal right away they will certainly be the leaders in a competitive division.

The West is competitive but LA should take it. This team might not be better but it might be better suited than last year’s to win in the playoffs.

St. Louis Cardinals +1200

The Cards made a splash by dealing for young outfielder Jason Heyward.

The fact that they dealt a starting pitcher shows the depth they had and that they probably thought Shelby Miller just wasn’t getting any better. There are some what ifs in that rotation but the bullpen should be just as dominating as ever. The lineup is good but is showing some age in spots. Unless the pitching is really strong these guys might not be a sure bet to make the playoffs.

This is a bet I definitely would not take. The Cards are due for a slip and I don’t think they did enough to be among the top contenders in the NL.

Detroit Tigers +1200

After another season with nothing to show for it the Tigers looked to improve their offense. They resigned Victor Martinez and brought in slugger Yoenis Cespedes. The rotation is not as deep as it was with Scherzer and Rick Porcello with they still have three high quality arms at the top of the rotation and should be the favourites in the AL Central. Their bullpen challenges have to be to be adequately solved and V-Mart might not starts the season so this team is far from a lock.

They still look very good to win the division and get in the tourney. The problem is they haven’t fared well there in the past. Take a pass.

Chicago Cubs +1400

The Cubbies are a brand new team. They have a new manager and a new ace in Joe Maddon and Jon Lester and optimism abounds. They certainty should be much improved but the NL Central is a deep division and being more competitive does not necessarily mean that they are ready to really win just yet. The lineup still has lots to prove but their optimism is justified.

This number looks like a lure. There is no way you can make a strong case for them winning it all this season.

Boston Red Sox +1400

The Sawx loaded up on big bats signing Pedro Alvarez and bringing Hanley Ramirez back home so to speak. The AL East could be up for grabs this season but their pitching is still pretty light. Rick Porcello may have been a great 5th starter in Detroit but he is not suddenly an ace in Beantown. I think these odds are inflated thanks to the popularity of the team.

If you really want to take a shot with a team from the AL East keep reading below.

Toronto Blue Jays +2000

I like the Jays chances to win the AL East this season – perhaps it is the most wide open division. Their everyday lineup should be among the best in the Majors and their pitching is solid and could advance more if young arms continue to develop. They have yet to address their bullpen though and that might be their downfall. If they make top prospect Aaron Sanchez the closer though things could tighten up pretty quickly.

Love the value and the opportunity to finally bust through. Like Detroit, if they get in maybe they can change their fate. Good payoff.
