Kansas City
The Royals may have qualified late for the playoffs but they haven’t looked back. Early on it looked like they would be one and done but they came back to beat Oakland and then swept through the Angels pretty easily.

There is a lot of talk about this team being a team of destiny. I am not buying it. They are a team that is very good at pitching and has the ability to take advantage of the smallest of opportunities.
If you need to be good at the little things to win in the playoffs nobody should be surprised by what we are seeing.
Leading off this series on the mound is James Shields – Big Game James. I am not sure that title is totally deserving but he is their undisputed ace and the best reason Kansas City has a great chance to take the early lead in this series.

Shields is tough and talented and will look to set the tone for the young Royals. He definitely will not be shy by the stage they are at. That is the kind of guy you need.
Baltimore
I feel like Baltimore is not getting enough credit for beating Detroit in the last round. Sure the Tigers kind of imploded but you still have to have batter at the plate to hit those terrible relievers.
All season long the Orioles have been underrated but they have been absolutely fantastic since mid June and have done it without several key players being available…that and an MVP season from free agent pickup Nelson Cruz.
This Baltimore team is talented and resilient.
They took their sweet time but there was no surprise that the Orioles tabbed Chris Tillman to start the series opener. There is not a huge gap amongst the Orioles top four starters but Tillman is the one they want to assume that ace mantle so looking anywhere else could have started something.

He should give the a very good effort, especially at home. He will be good enough to win.
