The surprising Twins and Detroit Tigers meet on Tuesday night with just 1 game separating them in the AL Central standings. Minnesota is off to their best start since 2010, but if they hope to stay competitive in the division, they’ll have to figure out a way to beat the Tigers when they blame them. Detroit swept away Minnesota in the Opening series and then took 2 of 3 from them in Minnesota.

Minnesota Twins

In the past, the Twins and their fans have grown accustom to losing back-to-back games on a regular basis. However, the Twins will look to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time since back on April 20th when they open their series with Detroit on Tuesday. Minnesota took 2 of 3 in Cleveland, but failed to grab the sweep following a lopsided 8-2 loss on Sunday.

In hopes of jumping into a 2nd place tie, the Twins will send right hander Kyle Gibson to the mound.

Gibson has won 2 straight starts and has thrown a combined 14.0 innings in those two wins allowing 0 runs. He shut down Chicago and Oakland in both outings.

Gibson did however get knocked around earlier in the season against Detroit as he went just 3.2 innings allowing 8 hits and 6 runs.

The Twins have won 9 of their last 11 games to get to 4 games above the .500 mark. As a team, they’re scoring 4.72 runs a game.

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers enjoyed Monday to get some much needed rest following their rain lengthened, 10 inning loss to the Royals on Sunday Night Baseball 2-1. They’ll now look to continue their dominance against the Twins as they welcome them in with Alfredo Simon on the rubber.

Simon has been a gem since being acquired in the offseason from Cincinnati. On the season, Simon is 4-1, but has struggled in his last two starts.

Simon went just 4.1 innings against Kansas City back on 4/30 allowing 9 hits and 6 runs in a 8-1 loss.

In his next start, he went just 5.0 innings allowing 5 hits and 3 runs in a no decision. Detroit went on to lose 7-6 to Chicago.

Expect Miguel Cabrera to get back on track as he is in a rare struggle going just 3 for his last 21. Last time he played the Twins, he hit 2 home runs in a 10-7 win.

MLB Handicapping Trends:

  • Twins are 6-2 in their last 8 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
  • Twins are 17-35 in their last 52 vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Tigers are 19-7 in their last 26 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
  • Tigers are 7-3 in their last 10 games following an off day

Free 4* MLB Pick: Detroit -138

Even with the Twins playing well, the Tigers have had their number. Expect this price to rise as Detroit continues their dominance over Minnesota on Tuesday.

Detroit 6, Minnesota 2
