The Angels revenge plans for the team that eliminated them in the 2014 post season were put on hold as they were swept away in their home park against Kansas City. Now, they’ll hit the road to take on the Rangers, in a place where success has been no problem for them. Meanwhile, the Rangers come in losers of 2 out of 3 against the Astros. The Rangers pitching let them down tremendously over the weekend as they allowed Houston to score 13 runs in 3 games.

Los Angeles

It is quite certain that some of the Angels players and fans had some flashbacks following their 3 straight losses to Kansas City. In the 2014 post season, the Royals swept right through Los Angeles in similar fashion. They’ll look to rebound from a weekend that saw them get outscored 19-8.

The Angels will hand the ball to SP Matt Shoemaker, who is already 1-0 on the season. Shoemaker went 6 innings and allowed just 3 runs in a 5-3 victory over Seattle.

The right hander has had past success against the Rangers as he is 3-0 in 3 starts against them.

On Sunday, Angels’ slugger Albert Pujols hit home run number 522, which sent him past 3 players and put him 18th all time in career home runs.

As a team through 6 games, Los Angeles is hitting just .195.

Texas

The Rangers are in the same boat in terms of struggling hitters as the Angels. With a team average of just .197, the Rangers will look to get their bats going again following a weekend that saw them score 11 runs.

A majority of those runs though came in a 6-2 victory on Saturday.

Texas will hand the ball back to Ross Detwiler, who was knocked around in his first start of the season. The southpaw went just 4.1 innings allowing 10 hits, and 8 runs, with only 5 of them earned. Detwiler struggled to gain any consistency with his fastball as he left a lot of pitches up in the zone.

This will be Detwiler’s 1st career start against Los Angeles.

Texas will hope to get some length if anything from Detwiler as their defeat on Sunday went 14 innings and left them with a taxed bullpen. Texas used 6 relievers in the loss, but none of the bullpen pitchers pitched more than 2 innings.

The losing pitcher, Logan Verrett was the lone guy to go 2.0 innings.

MLB Baseball Betting Trends:

  • Angels are 40-12 in their last 52 vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Angels are 8-3 in their last 11 road games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
  • Rangers are 11-4 in their last 15 games vs. a right-handed starter.
  • Rangers are 5-2 in their last 7 during game 1 of a series.

Free 4* MLB Pick: Texas +130

With both teams struggling to hit the ball, backing the home team here has the most value. Hope Detwiler can eat some innings up as Texas does not want to get into that bullpen early.

Rangers 4, Angels 3

The Rangers send the Angels to loss number 4 in a row on Monday.
