Tampa Bay
Things are so very tight in the AL East and the Rays have been fading. They have lost five in a row and eight of ten and you have to wonder if this club that is not overly talented is just finally finding its level.

Matt Moore is back from injury but he certainly did not give them a lift yesterday and not they head into the Bronx looking to stem the bleeding.
This is a club that looks like it really needs the All-Star break but it is still more than a week away.
A lot may happen to them in that span as they face three winning teams.

Tampa desperately needs ace Chris Archer to stop the bleeding.
He has been superb most of the season but his last outing against Boston was one of his worst of the season. He has made one start against the Yankees this season, a game they won where he didn’t give up much.
He has lost back to back starts just once this season and if he loses on Friday the rest of the weekend could be pretty ugly.
New York
The Yankees have not been playing much better than Tampa, winning only four of their last ten. They have a couple of series at home before heading to Boston before the break and will be looking to close a first half that they have to be pleased with on a roll.
The Yankees are a huge x factor. They have enough offense to compete but not enough pitching it seems. I am not sure they have enough in their farm system either but they could essentially buy some players.
Masahiro Tanaka has been good but not great this season. His last two starts have been terrible and he has not pitched well in Yankee Stadium which can play like a bandbox against righties if you can load your lineup with lefties.
He has one starts against the Rays this season and was brilliant but that was at the Trop. He has given up a staggering six homers in his last two starts.

Lucky for him Tampa has few power threats.
