It is just August but these teams are already playing out the string. The reason to watch is to see King Felix and if the Humidor affects him.

Seattle

The Mariners did an alright job of playing spoiler over the weekend splitting their series with Minnesota. The dealt Dustin Ackley to Yankees and Mark Lowe to the Blue Jays so it looks like they might be a factor in the playoff race in the American League after all.

With the moves they made they are probably not all that much worse.

Ackley was hitting terribly all season long and what good is having a real sharp setup guy when there are just not that many leads to protect.

Seattle might have thought it was a contender this season (and they weren’t the only ones) but it has just not come together for them.

Still watching the King work can be a treat. He has not been as dominant as he was a year ago and is coming off a very poor outing in his last start but I will almost never bet against him.

This season he is posting pretty even home and road splits and I don’t think pitching at Coors is going to affect him too much. He is just too good.

Colorado

Dealing Troy Tulowitzki might have been a blow but this team still has enough offense to be a spoiler down the stretch.

New shortstop Jose Reyes provides a different kind of offense and he will be better than he has shown so far. They still have Carlos Gonzalez too so there is more than enough power left.

They did acquire some pitching in the Tulo deal but that is probably not going to help them much this season. They have been a solid over team all season long and that is probably the only way to bet on the Rox down the stretch.

Through a dozen starts Eddie Butler has shown that he is not ready for the Majors yet.

Pitching in Colorado doesn’t help but he is walking as many as he whiffs and getting hit hard no matter where he throws.

At home his ERA is almost 6 but he does get to face a Seattle line-up that is far from fearsome right now. He is one of the reasons why betting overs is the way to go with Colorado.

MLB Betting Trends:

  • Under is 16-5-1 in SEA last 22 road games.
  • Under is 6-2-1 in SEA last 9 Mon. games.
  • SEA are 10-21 in their last 31 games as a favorite.
  • Over is 7-1-1 in COL last 9 games following a loss.
  • COL are 16-54 in their last 70 interleague games.
  • COL are 9-24 in their last 33 games as an underdog.

4* MLB Betting Prediction: Over 9.5

I know going over with Felix is rare but I think that is the only play that has value here.

MLB Baseball Score Prediction: Seattle 7 – Colorado 4

This won’t be a vintage King game and the bullpens will give up more than enough for the over to cash. Hopefully early so we don’t have to sweat.
