San Francisco

The Giants jumped all over Thor (Noah Syndergaard) last night winning 5-0 to take game one of the series.

After a lacklustre homestand they have taken three of four on their current road trip to keep the pressure on the Dodgers.

They have the second highest batting average in the Majors but are not cashing runs at a very good rate.

I don’t want to doubt the resolve of a champion but I am not sure their current level of success is sustainable and expect them to ultimately drop to a .500 level team.

Tim Hudson is not embarrassing himself but it is clear he is not the pitcher he once was.

He is giving up too many hit and he has been a disaster on the road with an ERA approaching six.

A couple of starts at Coors haven’t helped but the Giants need him to find a level of consistency is they are going to stay in the race all season long.

His last couple of starts have been solid so maybe the veteran just needed some extra time to warm up.

New York

With both teams losing yesterday the Mets come into Wednesday still a half game ahead of the Nats in the NL East.

It was a rare home loss for New York but the Giants shut them out and rooke Syndergaard was not very sharp. This team is built to win with pitching and their margin is very thin on most nights.

They are 25th in MLB in runs with Lucas Duda being the only bat in the lineup you really have to be careful with. These guys definitely need to make a deal to get a bat already.

There are a lot of studs on the Mets staff but Matt Harvey is still at the top for me.

The Dark Knight has an ability to dominate the other staff members haven’t established yet though he is still looking for the form that had him starting in the All-Star game a couple of seasons ago.

In four of his last five starts he has struck out nine or more and I look for him to dominate a Giants lineup that is pretty light.
