The San Diego Padres will head a few miles north to Anaheim Stadium for the first time since 2009 on Memorial Day, where they will play Game 1 of a three-game interleague series against the Angels.

Anaheim will be looking to regroup after two straight losses when it kicks off its 10-game homestand on Monday, while Mike Trout looks to extend his six-game hitting streak.

The Friars (21-24) lost all three in their last visit to Anaheim and will hope to build on an 11-3 pummeling of the Dodgers on Sunday, which avoided a three-game series sweep by their NL West rival.

Justin Upton’s grand slam helped San Diego snap a four-game skid in which it scored only three runs and was shut out twice. The Padres also matched its season high with 20 hits, with Upton having two, while matching a career best with six RBIs. He is hitting .179 with 12 strikeouts in 39 at-bats versus the Angels.

Meanwhile, after winning five of eight, Anaheim (22-22) ended its recent 10-game road trip with a pair if losses at Boston, including a 6-1 defeat on Sunday. The Halos registered just four hits in that one while dropping to .500 on the season.

Anaheim has batted .206 in its last six games, and if not for the efforts of centerfielder Trout, who is 10-for-24 with six runs scored during his six-game hitting streak, would not have scored even one run in their last two.

The Angels will look to change that when they begin this homestand, by starting recent turnaround Jered Weaver, who has had good luck against the Padres, and is 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA in two career starts against them. The 32-year-old right-hander will face a lineup that batted .168 with 13 runs in a 1-7 stretch before Sunday’s 11-3 rout in LA.

San Diego in the meantime, will try to keep pace by sending Tyson Ross to the hill in Game 1. The right-hander surrendered three runs and four hits, with eight punch-out’s in seven innings of a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs his last time out. He is 1-1 with a 1.99 ERA in four career starts against the Angels.

Matt’s Free 4* Prediction

Angels — Weaver is starting to look better and although the Padres throttled the Dodgers, 11 runs for this San Diego team is more of a fluke than a regular occurrence. Look for the Halos to get back on track with a 5-2 win here.
