San Diego
The Padres salvaged the final game of their series at San Francisco, winning 9-1 yesterday.
The win pushed them back over .500 and back into second place in the NL West. Per the intro, if they want to be more than a .500 team they are going to have to start picking on the weaker teams in the league.
San Diego won two of three at home in their first series against Arizona. Their improved hitting is giving the pitching staff a chance to find its stride.

San Diego is turning to swingman Despaigne to start off this series on the road.
The righty has pitched primarily in relief this season but he has made two starts including one very good one against Arizona back in April – 7IP with just two hits allowed.
His worst outing of the season was his last one against Houston (4 runs in less than 2IP).

Chase Field is definitely a hitters park so we will need to be sharp.
Arizona
Arizona has to be feeling pretty good about a sweep in yesterday’s doubleheader against Colorado.
They still have a long way to go before being in the race but at least they are no longer in last place in the NL West. Led by slugger Paul Goldschmidt this team can score but the pitching is mediocre and unpredictable at best. This is a pivotal series if this team is going to compete this season.
It may only be May but that is just a fact right now. If they get the pitching they can win.
D-Backs starter Rubby De La Rosa has been hit or miss this season.
He has proved he can miss bats with 31 strikeouts over 30 innings but the long ball has hurt him – twice he has given up 2 homers in a game. The Padres are much more powerful this season and he is going to have to keep the ball in the yard at home.

One of his two wins of the season came against the Padres.
