The Angels are looking to keep pace with a reeling Astros team. They should be able to make some hay in the Windy City.
Los Angeles
The Angels did some good work over the weekend at home. They took two of three against Baltimore, helping their own case while also hurting the chances of a Wild Card rival. Now they have a chance to add a nail to the coffin of the White Sox. They can’t afford a stumble.

Mike Trout and Albert Pujols are having strong seasons. Trout leads the Majors with 33 homers and Pujols is not far behind with 30. Still they are ranked just 14th in offense so some other guys are going to have to step up at least some of the time. They could have added a little more before the deadline.
Matt Shoemaker had a brilliant rookie season last year winning 16 games. This year a lot of his numbers look the same but the magic has not been there. The one thing that stands out the most is that he is giving up more homers. When the ball is leaving the yard you have be careful about base runners and he has been getting burned.

Chicago
Since the break the White Sox have been in a funk. They have won only twice and as a result I think they thoughts they had about maybe being in the race are gone. They spent a lot of money this offseason and made a lot of moves only to see pretty much everyone under perform.
Its not that everyone has been terrible but it just hasn’t come together. Maybe they were trying too hard to build a team and assembled the wrong parts. That is why it was surprising they didn’t make any moves at the break.

For a while there Chris Sale was unhittable but he has been getting hit hard of late. He has given up 7Er in each of his last two starts which is very uncharacteristic of Sale. Not sure if he is having a little dead arm or something but maybe that makes this a buying opportunity. Normally he is a wicked favourite.
