Giants vs Padres Pick

MLB betting action sees the San Francisco Giants taking on the San Diego Padres on Friday April 10th at Petco Park. Cappers Picks provides free MLB handicapping tips all season long.

The highly-retooled San Diego Padres will look to straighten out a 1-3 record thus far, with a divisional matchup at home Friday night against their rival – and reigning World Series champion – San Francisco Giants.

Though it’s full of righthanders, the Padres upgraded their slugging in a big way by acquiring OFs Justin Upton, Matt Kemp and Wil Myers as well as C Derek Norris and 3B Will Middlebrooks. A potent lineup, to say the least.

All the new faces will look to make hay against “The Freak” Friday night. Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum, a former Cy Young winner and a diminutive righty, has come back to Earth in recent seasons following a dominant start to his career.

Last season’s 4.74 ERA and 1.39 WHIP prove that these days, Lincecum can be had.

However, the Padres roll out an equally big, if not bigger question mark on the mound for them. Brandon Morrow was a pitcher that flashed potential for the Toronto Blue Jays, yet proved time and again that he could not stay healthy.

Pitcher injuries are a minefield at the best of times, but Morrow hasn’t been able to go 50 games without a strained something or an aggravated something else.

He could be a valuable commodity at the back of a strong Padres rotation if he can prove, somehow, he can stay on the field. Don’t expect that to happen, however.

In their last game, the Giants needed 12 innings to top San Diego, 1-0. Both clubs have dynamite pitching staffs that will put them in contention, along with the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the NL West division.

For the Giants, with the departure of 3B Pablo Sandoval to the Boston Red Sox, a major component of 2014’s offense left town. Yet, the Giants still seem to find a way to be resilient and adapt.

Sitting at 3-1 this season already, the G-Men will likely be plucky and hang around in the divisional race, though on paper it looks like it’s going to be a two-horse race between the Dodgers and Padres.

Ultimately, I expect San Diego’s revamped bats to wake up sooner rather than later; now would be as good a time as any, facing a pitcher that strangely, in his late 20s, peaked early. At age 30, The Freak seems ripe for the picking.

MLB Betting Trends:

Expect San Diego to get the bats going in what – even in the pitcher’s haven that is Petco Park – could be a high-scoring affair.
