Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Preview

The Dodgers are coming off an impressive season-opening series over the San Diego Padres.

The seres saw record-setting numbers from Dodger slugger Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez became the first player to hit five home runs in an opening series. He went 10-for-13 in the series, scoring seven runs and driving in another seven.

Arizona started off its season hosting the defending champion San Francisco Giants and dropping two of three. If the Diamondbacks want to bounce back the bullpen must improve after giving up nearly 40 hits in their first series of the year.

Toeing the rubber for the Dodgers is left-hander Brett Anderson. Anderson will be making his first start of the year after a 2014 campaign of 1-3 with a 2.91 ERA. He only started eight games last year for the Colorado Rockies because of a herniated disk in his back which he had surgery for in late August.

A promising spring training has Dodger fans excited about Anderson, he went 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA.

Second year man Chase Anderson will be throwing for the Diamondbacks and he will look to build upon his excellent rookie season. Last season he finished with a 9-7 record and a 4.01 ERA. Chase was just about the only bright spot for Arizona pitching staff who finished the year second last in the national league in ERA at 4.26.

He started off the season strong with a 3.34 ERA, but later in the year things started to go south and his ERA jumped to 4.98.

If the Diamondbacks hope to win this series they must be careful with Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez has had a ton of success against Arizona over the last 38 games, batting .400 to go along with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs.

In their last meeting he bombed two three-run homers to lead the Dodgers in a 7-2 victory.

Chase Anderson had a 7-3 record and 3.42 ERA at Chase Field last year in 12 starts.

Betting Trends:

  • Dodgers are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings at Chase Field.
  • Dodgers are 4-1 in their last five games when their opponent allows five runs or more in their previous game.
  • Diamondbacks are 1-6 in Andersons last seven starts against a team with a winning record.
  • Diamondbacks are 1-7 in their last eight games following an off day.
  • Diamondbacks are 0-6 in their last six games against a left-handed starter.

4* Free MLB Pick: LAD -134

The Dodgers are rolling and behind the red hot bat of Adrian Gonzalez they will take game one of this series.

Kyle’s Analysis: Anderson has not pitched well against teams with a lot of offensive firepower. Expect the Dodgers to put up big numbers on offensive and for a lot of runs to be scored in this ballgame.
