Detroit

The Tigers fought hard to keep their perfect start going on Monday afternoon. Down 5-1 heading into the 9th they put three runs on the board but it just wasn’t enough.

This was supposed to be a season where they retreated back a bit thanks to the departure of Max Scherzer and with Justin Verlander starting the season on the shelf.

It is early but it seems like they are going to be just fine in the rotation. The bullpen is where they need lasting improvement if they really want to improve.

Shane Greene was one of the question marks for the Tigers heading into the season.

If his first start was any indicator the Tigers do not have too much to worry about as he dominated the Twins in his lone outing of the season.

His numbers with the Yankees indicate that it is not far fetched to expect him to be a more than competent member of the staff, capable of dominating at times.

Pittsburgh

The Pirates did not get off to a good start to the season, dropping all three at Cincinnati. Since then they are 3-1 which is not terrible given yesterday was their first home game.

The expectations are that this Pittsburgh team should be in the mix for a return to the playoffs and so far I see nothing to shake that. One encouraging sign is the bat of Pedro Alvarez. They are looking for him to get comfortable at first base and he has hit three homes while batting over. 300.

So far so good.

One start into his return to the Pirates and Pittsburgh has to be pretty pleased with what they got from A.J. Burnett. Even at his advanced age he is durable and can miss bats – see his 7 strikeouts in 5 innings in his season debut.

He got a no decision against the Reds in a game they lost in the ninth.

I think there is a good chance he picks up his first win of the season Tuesday night.

MLB Betting Trends:

  • PIT are 2-7 in their last 9 overall.
  • PIT are 2-7 in their last 9 games on grass.
  • PIT are 8-3 in their last 11 interleague games.
  • Under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Pittsburgh.
  • Under is 11-4 in the last 15 meetings.

MLB Betting Prediction: Pittsburgh -123

Look for Pittsburgh to get a second win over the Tigers Tuesday.

MLB Score Prediction:  Pittsburgh 5 – Detroit 2

Decent value and I like taking NL teams at home in interleague play. Especially early in the season when everyone is still feeling each other out.
