The recent surge of the New York Mets has put them in a prime position to make an epic run at the NL East. Leading the Nationals by 1.5 games now, the Mets will welcome in a very winnable opponent in the Colorado Rockies. However, the story here will be the return of long time Mets player, Jose Reyes.

Reyes play 9 seasons in a Mets uniform and was a 4 time all star with the team. Reyes and company will look to send the Mets to their 3rd straight loss on Monday night.

Colorado Rockies

It’s been rare this season when a Rockies game has been meaningful to them. Sitting 14.5 out of both the division and Wild Card, Colorado gets set to begin a 4 game set against the Mets with the mentality of playing spoiler. While there is still a month and a half of baseball to be played, every game counts now as the races are heating up.

The Rockies will go with RH Jon Gray to toe the rubber. Gray made his major league debut on Tuesday and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) in 4 innings of work. The rookie RH did not factor into the decision.

Gray was drafted back in 2013 and was promoted this season after his stellar job at Triple A Albuquerque. He went 3-1 with an ERA of 2.70 in 6 starts this season.

The Rockies main problem has been pitching all season long. They’re allowing 5.20 runs per game and that number actually jumps up higher when they play home games at Coors Field.

While they’re be trying to play spoiler the rest of the way, getting a look at the different starting pitchers will be key, like Gray. Their future rotation for years to come could potentially find one or even two guys within their system that can make a difference.

The Rockies will essentially be holding auditions while trying to ruin playoff teams’ chances these next couple months.

New York Mets

New York would love to have their former SS Jose Reyes put on a Mets jersey this week. In his 9 year tenure, Reyes hit .292 with 370 stolen bases and 735 runs.

However, the Mets seem to be doing just fine without him as they hold their 1.5 game lead over Washington. That lead could have grown to even more, but a pair of one run losses against Tampa Bay set them back over the weekend.

Still the Mets aren’t going anywhere in the NL East and will look to Jonathon Niese to get them back on track.

The LH is just 6-9 on the season, but has 10 quality starts over his last 11. Last time out he held Miami to just 1 run in 7 innings of work and earn the win in the process.

Over his last 11 outings, Niese is just 3-4 with an ERA of 2.78. He’s been on the end of some unfortunate late blown leads and no run support in the process.

In 7 career starts against the Rockies, Niese is only 1-3 with an abysmal 4.98 ERA. He last faced them in September and allowed 1 run in 6.2, but settled for a ND.

MLB Betting Trends:

  • Rockies are 23-48 in their last 71 during game 1 of a series..
  • Rockies are 7-1 in their last 8 vs. National League East.
  • Rockies are 8-19 in their last 27 games as an underdog.
  • Mets are 4-0 in their last 4 during game 1 of a series.
  • Mets are 44-13 in their last 57 games as a favorite.

4* MLB Betting Prediction: New York ML

The Mets are in desperate need of a win after dropping two one run games to Tampa. With the NL East race on, New York knows these are the types of games they MUST win.

MLB Baseball Score Prediction: New York 4- Colorado 2

Niese turns in another quality start as the Mets offense does just enough to get him a win.
