The Chicago White Sox arrive in the Motor City in search of the their fifth win in seven games when take on the Tigers in the second game of a four game set on Friday night.

Although it has struggled on the road for the majority of the season, Chicago (31-40) took the series opener on Thursday, thanks to a bases-clearing triple in the 10th inning from Carlos Sanchez that lifted the White Sox to a 8-7 win.

Melky Cabrera also helped power Chicago’s offense, keeping up his success at Comerica Park by getting on base three times and scoring twice . The 31-year-old is 46-for-138 (.333) in 32 career games in Detroit.

Meanwhile, Detroit (37-35) has lost two in a row and six of its last nine to drop to six games behind American Central-leading Kansas City.

The Tigers have been leaving a lot of runners stranded on the basepath, but have been fueled by the hot stick of J.D. Martinez, who has five homers and 10 RBIs in his last four outings. However, he has struggled against Friday starter Jose Quintana.

The left-handed Quintana fell to 4-3 in his career against the Tigers, dropping his first two outing this season, including a nine-run, 10-hit drubbing on April 19. The 26-year-old gave up two homers but walked away with a no-decision after seven strong innings against the Rangers on Sunday.

Detroit will counter with right-hander Anibal Sanchez who posted his third straight win on Sunday in a 12-4 victory over the New York Yankees. The 31-year-old did a good job recovering from a pair of early game home runs, and will look to rebound from a horrible outing versus the White Sox his last time facing them, when he was shelled for nine runs on as many hits in 3 1/3 innings.

That loss dropped Sanchez to 2-5 with a 5.45 ERA versus the White Sox over his career.

Matt’s Free 4* Prediction

White Sox — Chicago is just 3-9 in their last 12 road games and 4-12 away from home versus AL Central rivals, but you wouldn’t have know it in Game 1.

Given the Tigers misfortunes and Sanchez’s inability to figure out the White Sox offense, I expect the visitors to get a big win here.
