Florida wraps up an 11-game home stand this Monday night when it takes on Arizona for the finale of a four-game weekend series before heading north for this one. The Marlins are probably looking forward to getting away from home after going 1-9 in the first 10 games. They are now seven games behind the Phillies in the division with an overall record of 32-32; 15-21 at home and 17-11 on the road.

Everything that could go wrong for Florida during this recent slump has. Its bats have been inconsistent at best and its pitching is suddenly suspect from the starter’s right through the bullpen. Chris Volstad will be on the mound in this one. He has lost his last three outings and is now 2-6 on the year with a 5.51 ERA. Lifetime against the Phillies, he is 2-3 with an ERA of 4.45.

Philadelphia is 5-2 in its last seven games after taking two of three from the Dodgers and three of four from the Cubs last week. The Phillies are now an NL-best 40-26 on the year; 16-14 on the road and 24-12 at home. They have a two-game lead over Atlanta in the East. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

After scoring just five runs combined in its first three games in June, Philadelphia has averaged 4.4 runs per game in its last eight. This compares to a season average of 4.1 runs per game which is ranked seventh in the NL.

Cole Hamels will get the start for the Phillies on Tuesday. The left hander is off to a great start with an 8-2 record in 13 starts and an ERA of just 2.58. He is 4-7 against the Marlins with a 4.67 ERA. He gave up seven hits and two earned runs in a no-decision against them on April 17.

Head-to-head, the Phillies have won three of five this season with the total staying ‘under’ in three of the games. They won 12 of 15 in 2010 with five of the last six going ‘over’ the total. This time around, stick with Hamels’ hot hand as Philadelphia grabs the early edge in this series with a win.
