ESPN Sunday Night Baseball Prediction – Sunday, 8:05 PM ET, May 2, 2010 – Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

New York Mets: 14-10 (3-5 Away)
Philadelphia Phillies: 13-10 (4-4 Home)

Pitchers:

New York: Santana (3-1, 2.08 ERA)
Philadelphia: Moyer (2-2, 5.25 ERA)

Betting Odds:
New York Mets: -140, -1.5, Over 9
Philadelphia Phillies: +120, +1.5, Under 9

The New York Mets are on fire. After losing their first four series of the season, the Mets have put together quite a streak. They went 9-1 on their recent home stand and stretched their win streak to seven with their Friday night shellacking of the Phillies.

Saturday’s 10-0 loss as much a product of Roy Halladay’s dominance than it was of poor play.

The Mets will send their ace to the hill on Sunday night in hopes winning the series. Santana is 3-1 on the season with his only loss coming at the hands of the Washington Nationals on a night that Santana didn’t have his stuff.

He has been superb against the Phillies in the last three seasons with a 4-1 average and a 2.98 ERA while holding the Phillies to a .195 batting average.

In the last 11 games (including Saturday), the Mets have scored an impressive 48 runs. Unheralded first baseman Ike Davis has been great, Jason Bay is waking up offensively and David Wright has had his typical workmanlike season.

The Philadelphia Phillies have been largely underwhelming this season. Five of their 13 wins have been thanks to Roy Halladay!

Ryan Howard has been OK but his power numbers are certainly down. It is no secret that the Phillies rely on Howard’s big bat for their offense.

Brad Lidge was activated from the DL on Friday and it is a good thing. Unspectacular part-time closer and full time cry baby Ryan Madsen broke his toe after a temper tantrum in the dugout Wednesday.

The Phillies will send the oldest player in MLB to the mound on Sunday night. Jamie Moyer represent!

The geriatric overpaid refuse to retire athletes of America! He is 2-2 on the season with a 5.35 ERA.

Moyer was poor in his last outing against the Giants, giving up 10 hits and 4 runs in his 6 innings of work.

This game, on paper is no contest and what is on paper should translate to the field.

Santana should dominate and when it is time for him to hand the ball over, he will give it over to a bullpen that has an incredible 2.45 ERA on the season.

Sorry Philadelphia, Roy Halladay can`t pitch every game!
