Detroit Tigers vs. Oakland A’s Preview

1. The A’s have the fewest home wins in the Majors.
2. The A’s are tied with the Brewers for the fewest overall wins in the Majors.
3. The Tigers have lost 2 in a row and are 5-5 in their last 10 games.

This season the A’s are 5-14 on at home and the Tigers are 12-7 on the road.

In their last games the A’s beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-2 and the Tigers lost to the Houston Astros 10-8.

The A’s snapped their 4-game losing streak by winning their last 2 games, but can they win at home? They have the fewest home wins in the bigs and have lost 5 of their last 6 games in Oakland including their last 4.

The Tigers have dropped 2 straight and they are tied for 2nd place in the AL Central with the Twins 3 games back of the Kansas City Royals.

The Tigers have won their last 4 games facing the A’s.

Shane Greene goes for the A’s tonight and he has been solid in his last 3 starts where he is 1-0 and has an ERA of only 1.40. In his last outing he gave up 2 earned runs in 6 innings of work in a 5—2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. The A’s have won their last 2 games when Greene has gotten the starting nod.

This will be Green’s first career start facing the Tigers.

The Tigers are 5-2 in Greene’s last 7 starts vs. a team with a losing record.

While Greene has been solid as of late the same cannot be said for Oakland starter Jesse Hahn, who is 0-3 with an ERA of 5.96 in his last 4 starts. In his last outing he was not terrible giving up 3 earned runs in 6 innings, but got little run support in a 6-1 loss to the Houston Astros.

The A;s have lost 7 of their 8 games this season, including their last 5, when Hahn has gotten the start.

The Tigers rank 5th in the Majors in runs scored and they are led by the hot Miguel Cabrera, who is hitting .413 with 5 HR in a 12-game hitting streak.

The A’s rank 7th in runs scored and 14th in team ERA and while these stats are not bad they have not led to wins, as Oakland is 14 games under .500 and in last place in the AL West already 13.5 games back of the Astros.

Even though the Tigers have lost 2 straight and the A’s have won 2 in a row, I have to go with Detroit in this one with Greene on the hill.
