Kinsler and the Tigers (40-32) have put together four straight wins to take control of the top spot in the American League Central and will aim to keep their momentum going in Arlington against Texas (35-40) who is looking to snap its first five-game losing streak of the season.

Detroit began its current nine-game road trip by sweeping a three-game set at Cleveland, which included a 10-4 victory in the series finale on Sunday.

Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in three runs while Kinsler had three hits and right fielder J.D. Martinez added a two-run double to extend his current hitting streak to a career-high 12 games.

Martinez is batting .404 (19-for-47) during his streak, with six doubles, four homers and 13 RBIs.

Meanwhile, the Rangers return to Arlington off a miserable nine-game road stint, losing six, including five straight.

To add to their woes, they will be without infielder Donnie Murphy, who left during Sunday’s 5-2 loss at the Anaheim Angels, due to soreness in his left knee. He is listed as day-to-day.

The Rangers are a season-worst five games under .500 while scoring a total of nine runs over their last four games.

While much of the Texas lineup is struggling, the Tigers will look to take advantage and send Drew Smyly to the mound in game one. The lefty has pitched well, but has been plagued by poor run support lately with the Tigers scoring only two or fewer in five of his last six outings.

Smyly went seven innings and gave up just two runs last Wednesday against Kansas City, and is 0-1 with a 3.93 ERA in seven career games against Texas.

The Rangers will counter with veteran Colby Lewis, who is taking the mound for the first time since June 16. The right-hander has gone 3-3 with a 6.86 ERA in his last eight starts, which included a poor outing on Monday, when he allowed five runs on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings against Oakland.

Lewis will look to rebound against Detroit, who he gave up just two runs over 5 2/3 innings to back on May 25. The 34-year-old is 3-2 with a 6.02 ERA in seven career starts against the Tigers.
