Today’s MLB Betting Tip

Saturday, May 30, 4:10 p.m. ET: Eric Stultz (4-1, 4.29) vs Ryan Dempster (3-3, 4.99) …

Cubs vs Dodgers Saturday/Sunday Picks

MLB odds followers knew the Dodgers had a walk in the NL West this season, but weren’t the Cubs supposed to cruise as well? They haven’t held up their end of the bargain, as the NL Central has been very competitive. A series win against the first-overall Dodgers would go a long way for them.

Saturday, May 30, 4:10 p.m. ET: Eric Stultz (4-1, 4.29) vs Ryan Dempster (3-3, 4.99)

Stultz’s numbers are solid so far this season, but baseball betting fans should stay away on Sunday. Would you bet on a horse with a bum hoof in the Belmont Stakes odds? Of course not. Stultz recently sprained his thumb on his pitching hand and had his start pushed from Wednesday to Saturday. He’s struggled of late, allowing seven earned runs over 9.1 innings in his last two starts. At the Friendly Confines, he’s a good bet to get lit up.

After a dream 2008 season, Ryan Dempster has crashed back to Earth for the Cubbies, walking batters and serving up homers while laboring his way to a 3-3 record. He’s 2-0 at home even though his road ERA (4.82) is better than his home mark (5.25), but he obviously gets better run support at Wrigley Field. Not only should you pick the Cubs, you should go OVER the total if that’s the game you play.

Sunday, May 31, 8:05 p.m. ET: Eric Milton (1-0 3.00) vs Sean Marshall (3-3, 3.70)

Eric Milton sighting! The former first round pick earned his first win in three years earlier this week at Coors Field. Can lightning strike twice? Don’t count on it. He’s all about serving up taters and, even though he escaped with just one allowed in Colorado, he won’t be so lucky against the Cubs. Derek Lee, who is heating up, has launched three long balls off Milton in 18 at bats. Milton also has a 6.70 ERA and 14 homers allowed in eight career starts at Wrigley. Ouch. Better go with Sean Marshall, who has been solid in spot start duty this baseball betting season.
