Chicago White Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers MLB Preview & Free Pick

2012 White Sox vs Dodgers Betting Preview

How good is this pitching matchup? The posted total here is set at a mind boggling 5.5 runs. Sure, totals have come down over the last few years, but 5.5 runs as a game total is ridiculous.

Still, I can completely understand how the oddsmakers came up with this total given the two dominating left-handers who will start this game.

Let’s take a look at this rare Interleague matchup between the White Sox and Dodgers.

Chicago has been a great road team all year. In fact, no one in baseball has a better road record than the White Sox.

Chris Sale was converted into a starter before the season, and that has helped propel the White Sox to the top of the AL Central.

Sale has been absolutely amazing as a starter so far this season. He is 8-2 with a 2.05 ERA. Sale has a spectacular WHIP of 0.92. The White Sox lineup has struggled against left-handers this year. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Paul Konerko is having a career season for the Sox. Konerko is batting .366 with an on-base-percentage of .444. Adam Dunn is in the middle of a great bounce back season. Dunn has 21 homers and 47 RBI’s.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in baseball right now. Clayton Kershaw hasn’t been quite as dominant as last year, but his numbers are still terrific. Kershaw has given up more long balls this year, but he still has an impressive 2.65 ERA.

The Dodgers lineup takes a major hit without Matt Kemp in the order, but plenty of guys are chipping in to make this team keep on churning out wins. Catcher A.J. Ellis is hitting .303 with a .436 on-base-percentage. Andre Ethier has piled up 55 RBI’s in 2012 thus far.

Bobby Abreu was picked up after the Angels released him, and Abreu is giving the team a nice boost in the middle of the order. The Dodgers pitching staff ranks second in the majors in team ERA.

Kershaw actually has a pedestrian 5.03 ERA over this last three starts. Sale has an ERA barely above 1 in his last three outings. I like the underdog here.
