The pitching is good enough for them to be a bit better provided they could get some more production from their lineup. Only three regulars are hitting over .250 and they are ranked in the 20s in all majors statistical categories.
They have no choice but to let players play and that is why you see Mike Olt leading the team in homers while hitting 30 points below his weight.

Chicago lefty Travis Wood is not having much success this season. The odd thing is that he is missing bats at a rate higher than normal but his hits are way up so I wonder if he has made a conscious decisions to change his play to contact style.
He has been an absolute disaster away from Wrigley Field this season with an ERA of 8.80.

One of his two wins on the season came against St. Louis, a game in which he pitched 7IP for just the second time all season.
St. Louis
The Cardinals barely escaped Pittsburgh with a win from their weekend series.
They lost the first two and then narrowly took the game last night in dramatic fashion. This far this season the Cards have been sharp on the mound while struggling with the stick. They are a shocking 27th in runs scored and they are hitting just .249 as a team.
Given that they are at .500 now and their bats are bound to warm up they actually have to be a little but pleased with their current positioning.
Tyler Lyons is just another example of how the Cardinals have an embarrassment of pitching riches.
He made a few starts last season and this season has been used in the rotation and in relief. In each of his three spot starts he has pitched 6 innings and only once has he given up more than 2ER.
He needs to get a little more help from his offense though because they have only provided him 2 runs of support total over those games.
There is not a lot of value on the favourite in this one. Travis Wood is certainly good enough to stymie the Cards but I think it will be the opposite and look for St. Louis it knock him out early with some solid offense.
