MLB Thursday Preview – Boston vs Cleveland

Before baseball gambling fans turn their attention to other sports betting events this weekend, we have the Tuesday MLB game of the day pick for you. It’s time for our weekly baseball picks for online MLB betting action.

Season Record:
Boston: 35-26 SU
Cleveland: 22-36 SU

Game Preview (June 10, 2010): Boston Red Sox @ Cleveland Indians

The 2010 World Cup betting challenges people to choose among the best soccer teams in the world, and the online betting for the Boston Red Sox at the Cleveland Indians game offers the same opportunity. This game pits the best of the best for each of these team’s starting rotations, and this could be one of the more interesting MLB betting games of the week.

On the mound for Boston will be Jon Lester and his 7-2 record. Lester started the season with a rough 0-2 record, but since April 18 he has won seven of his nine starts with the other two being no decisions. Lester went 1-0 against the Indians last season, and his undefeated streak in May and June makes him a tough proposition for the Tribe in this contest.

Cleveland will put their best pitcher Mitch Talbot on the mound for this game. Talbot has never faced the Red Sox as a starter, but he does bring a 7-4 record into this game which includes two wins against the Chicago White Sox and their ace Jake Peavy. The only time Talbot has ever faced the Red Sox was when he toiled in the Tampa Bay Rays’ bullpen in a relief appearance when he gave up four earned runs in only three innings pitched. This version of Mitch Talbot has learned a lot since his days in the Tampa bullpen.

There is a lot going on in Boston these days as the Celtics Lakers betting is in full swing for the NBA Finals, and the Red Sox continue to climb the standings in the AL East. The Red Sox have won seven of their last 10 games to pull within four games of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East.

The Indians are having a rough start to the 2010 season as they currently sit 11 ½ games out of first place in the AL Central with a 21-35 record. The Indians have only won four of their last 10 games, and they are riding a losing streak to start the second week of June. The team is looking to Talbot to try and turn them around to try and make a run for the AL wild card with a win against the surging Red Sox.

The Red Sox have a road record of 16-11 while the Indians have a losing record at home with a 8-15 mark. Cleveland sits at the bottom, or near the bottom, of the AL is just about every offensive category including runs and home runs. A more telling stat on the Indians is they are second to last in the AL in overall ERA with 4.80 which is only slightly better than the 4.81 posted by the Chicago White Sox.

This game could be played just about anywhere and the Indians may not have much of a chance. The Red Sox have scored the most runs in the AL and are second in home runs hit. While Talbot holds an impressive record for the Indians this season, he will be tested in this game and it will be interesting to see how long the Indians hold out before giving their faltering bullpen a try.

Gambling Trends:

Boston is 7-2 SU in its last 9 games when playing on the road against Cleveland
Boston is 8-3 SU in its last 11 games
Cleveland is 7-16 SU in its last 23 games
Cleveland is 4-13 SU in its last 17 games at home
Cleveland is 2-7 SU in its last 9 games when playing at home against Boston
Cleveland is 1-7 SU in its last 8 games when playing Boston
Boston is 7-1 SU in its last 8 games when playing Cleveland
Boston is 9-2 SU in its last 11 games on the road

Pick: Boston Red Sox 5-1
