Matchup | Preview

This is the first game of a four-game series between the teams. Boston has been a major disappointment so far this year, while the White Sox have actually surprised to the upside thus far in 2012.

Phillip Humber will make his first start for Chicago since throwing a Perfect Game in Seattle last weekend.

The Red Sox offense has been hitting the ball quite well of late, and it helped them to a successful series in Minnesota. Still, this team understands expectations are high and being several games below .500 already this year isn’t going to cut it. The starting rotation has been a major question mark this year.

Injuries have left them short-handed, and that has forced guys like Felix Doubront into the rotation. Doubront has actually been one of the team’s best starters so far this year. He has an ERA of just 3.94 in 16 innings. Offensively, the Red Sox are pounding the baseball right now.

David Ortiz has led the team, but they are getting great contributions from other guys like Mike Aviles and Cody Ross. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Phillip Humber was a surprising star pitcher for the White Sox last year. Most people assumed he’d come back down to earth this year, but he had other ideas. Humber threw just the 21st perfect game in Major League Baseball history this past weekend. On the season, he has a sparkling ERA of 0.63.

The White Sox lost a heart breaker in extra innings yesterday in Oakland. The bullpen was used quite a bit, so Robin Ventura will definitely want a nice long outing from Humber in this one. A.J. Pierzynski has been on fire offensively to start off the season. He is hitting .340 with 4 homers and 15 RBI’s.

Importantly, guys like Alex Rios and Adam Dunn are hitting much better than last year, which is one of the main reasons the White Sox have been a nice surprise so far this year.

The Red Sox are really hitting the ball well right now, and I think Humber will regress from his amazing start last time out. At the same time, Doubront doesn’t have dominating stuff. Look for both teams to score several times here.
