Baseball Betting – Solid pitching highlights Giants-Mets battle

While most will be making their Preakness betting choices this weekend, there is an intriguing series on the baseball diamond that is worth your consideration. The lead in the American League West is up for grabs at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, as the division-topping Rangers host the Los Angeles Angels, who are starting to regain the form that has brought them two straight West titles.Sportsbook odds favor the Rangers at home at -125 in what will be a closely contested series. Five of their nine meetings in 2008 went over the posted total, while one was a push, so online betting players can expect some runs to be scored between two West contenders.

Friday, 8:05 PM ET (John Saunders vs Kevin Millwood)

Saunders (5-1, 2.66) has won four in a row, but he’s allowed five homers in his last three trips to Texas. Millwood (3-3, 2.93) is also off to a solid start as the Rangers’ “ace” and his last three decisions (two wins, one loss) have been decided by a single run. Look for the Rangers to bring Saunders down to earth a bit. (Baseball betting pick: Texas)

Saturday, 4:10 PM ET (John Lackey vs Vicente Padilla)

Lackey is making his first start of the year after missing time with an elbow problem, and the hot-hitting Rangers may not be the best place for him to shake off the rust. Padilla (2-2, 4.97) has thrown two consecutive one-hitters, but he’s struggled at home with a 1-2 mark in four starts and an outlandish 8.10 ERA. Still, Lackey will be a bit rusty, and the Rangers will jump on him early. (Baseball betting pick: Texas)

Sunday, 2:05 PM ET (Jered Weaver vs Scott Feldman)

Weaver (3-1, 2.45) is second in the American League in ERA to kick off the season, and he’ll be an excellent No.4 starter once Lackey and Ervin Santana pitch themselves back into form. Feldman (2-0, 4.85) is making a strong case to stay in the rotation after moving up from the bullpen, as he has allowed only three runs in his last 12.1 innings of work. However, Weaver is pitching out of his mind right now, so the Angels should take advantage of it while they can. (Baseball betting pick: Los Angeles)

MLB odds pick: Red Sox
