Betting On MLB? Cappers Picks Baseball Power Rankings

Baseball Handicapping Tips

The MLB season marches on. The teams have begun to show us what they have to offer, but there’s still a long way to go in a season that’s a marathon, not a sprint. With that said, it’s these early opinions we formulate that will decide whether this season will be a profitable one for us or not.

Here are the power rankings entering the 11th week of the MLB schedule.

1. Oakland Athletics (39-24)

The Athletics’ run differential is nearly twice any other team in baseball, and that has to strike some real fear into the rest of the National League West. The team’s lineup has been far more potent than many expected entering the season, and the pitching staff has been just as effective as we’ve come to expect from the team playing in a pitcher-friendly ballpark.

2. San Francisco Giants (42-21)

Many Giants fans would like to see their team claiming the top spot in the rankings. They’ve played very well, thanks in large part to a greatly improved offense. Michael Morse has worked wonders by the Bay, and Pablo Sandoval has really been heating up of late. They’ll get back Brandon Belt before the month is out, and then they’ll really be a team to watch.

3. Toronto Blue Jays (38-26)

What’s been amazing is that the Blue Jays have just found so many different ways to win, coming out on top in high-scoring games, and low-scoring ones as well. Of course, it’s been the team’s offense that has carried them. Brett Lawrie’s been heating up, picking up some big hits in Detroit, and Juan Francisco looks to be the real deal.

4. Milwaukee Brewers (38-26)

A regression had to be expected after such a hot start to the year. The team has juggled the batting order a little bit and that’s paid off of late. The team’s pitching rotation has been better than expected, and there’s no reason to believe they can’t continue providing the team with quality innings. Additionally, Carlos Gomez might just be one of the most underappreciated offensive weapons in the game today.

5. Detroit Tigers (33-26)

The Tigers deserved a better fate on Sunday night against the Red Sox, but the team is paying the price for overlooking their closer spot for the better part of a decade. The team’s offense is still rolling along with Ian Kinsler really finding his footing. The team’s rotation remains solid with Anibal Sanchez providing a much needed boost, and Rick Porcello quietly performing very effectively.

6. Washington Nationals (32-29)

There are still a number of key parts in the infirmary, but the Nationals continue to show an ability to just figure out ways to win, no matter how ugly. Jayson Werth has really proven his value this season. Gio Gonzalez looks to be the first piece ready to come off the DL in a week or so.

7. Atlanta Braves (32-29)

The team’s starting rotation remains strong, and all the pieces are there for the offense to be equally dominant, but it’s just not coming together at that end. The team looked set to run away with their division, but they now have a scrappy Nationals team to deal with.

8. Los Angeles Dodgers (33-21)

The Dodgers have all the money in the world, but they just can’t seem to get out of their own way. Watching the team trot out the likes of Chone Figgins and Scott Van Slyke can be painful at times. Money doesn’t buy what it used to.

9. St. Louis Cardinals (33-31)

The Cardinals are finally starting to turn things around after a very un-Cardinal-like start to the season. Seeing Matt Holliday take a pitch right off the elbow had to be unnerving, but all seems to be fine. Allen Craig seems to have exorcised the demons he dealt with in April.

10. Los Angeles Angels (33-31)

Josh Hamilton’s true value to the team seems to be getting hurt and jumpstarting the club with his absence. Howie Kendrick’s back to being Howie Kendrick, which is good, but Mike Trout looks to be back to being Mike Trout, which is better.

11. Baltimore Orioles (31-30)
12. Cleveland Indians (32-31)
13. Seattle Mariners (33-29)
14. New York Yankees (31-31)
15. Pittsburgh Pirates (29-33)
16. Boston Red Sox (28-34)
17. Kansas City Royals (31-32)
18. Cincinnati Reds (29-32)
19. Houston Astros (28-36)
20. Colorado Rockies (29-33)
21. Miami Marlins (33-30)
22. Texas Rangers (31-32)
23. Chicago White Sox (31-33)
24. Minnesota Twins (29-32)
25. San Diego Padres (28-35)
26. New York Mets (28-35)
27. Arizona Diamondbacks (28-37)
28. Chicago Cubs (25-35)
29. Tampa Bay Rays (24-40)
30. Philadelphia Phillies (25-36)
