ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

Baltimore (30-27) sustained their supremacy over the Rangers with a 6-5 win in game two on Wednesday.

Nick Markakis homered and drove in a pair of runs while Nelson Cruz reached base five times as Baltimore extended its winning streak to four games.

Adrian Beltre answered for Texas (29-30), clubbing a pair of home runs and driving in all five runs in Wednesday’s contest.

The Rangers third baseman has been a force against the O’s, and after last night’s performance, has nine home runs and 18 RBIs in the last 10 games versus Baltimore.

He may be able to keep that stroke of good luck up against starter Chris Tillman, who is slated to take the mound for Baltimore tonight. Beltre, is 3-for-8 with a homer against Tillman, who is unbeaten (5-0) on the road.

Tillman has been somewhat inconsistent however, in his last four outings, following up a shutout on May 16, by surrendering a whopping eight runs in just over one inning in his next start against Pittsburgh.

The right-hander followed that up with a six-run outing at Milwaukee where he worked 5 2/3 innings, before limiting Houston to one run in 6 2/3 innings his last time out.

He is 3-1 with a 3.21 ERA in four career starts versus Texas.

Texas will counter with veteran Colby Lewis, who is coming off a bad outing at Washington. The righty gave up five earned runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings in that one.

Lewis has not pitched well in Arlington, posting a 1-3 record and 7.52 ERA in four starts, and he is just 1-4 with a 5.97 ERA in five career starts against the O’s.

Betting Trends

  • Over is 12-4 in BAL last 16 overall.
  • Over is 12-4 in BAL last 16 on grass.

  • Under is 6-2 in TEX last 8 home games.
  • TEX are 20-7 in their last 27 Thu. games.

Notes:

1. Tillman is unbeaten (5-0) away from home despite surrendering at least six runs in half of his last six road starts.
2. Lewis is 1-4 with a 5.97 ERA in seven career appearances (five starts) against Baltimore.
3. Beltre, who is 5-for-8 with three homers and six RBIs in the series, is 3-for-8 with a homer against Tillman.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Orioles

Since opening the 2014 season by winning nine of 13 at home, the Rangers have fallen, posting just four wins in their last 16 games in Arlington.

Besides Beltre the rest of Rangers lineup is struggling, with a combined .266 team batting average. Mix in Lewis’ inconsistency and Tillman’s road streak, and I have to go with the O’s in this one.
