Matchup | Preview

Both of these teams have a terrific offense, and the runs were scored in Atlanta’s 9-7 extra innings win.

The oddsmakers are expecting a lot fewer runs this time around. Let’s take a look at this interesting matchup.

Brandon Beachy had a decent season last year, but he has been spectacular so far in 2012. Beachy is 3-1 with a 1.62 ERA. He has had great command over all his pitches so far this season.

The Braves offense has been piling up the runs of late. Atlanta averages 5.30 runs per game, which is fourth best in the majors. The team has scored at least 9 runs in four of their last nine games. Michael Bourn is setting the table with his terrific lead off hitting so far this year.  [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Freddie Freeman is having a breakout season, and he leads the team with 27 RBI’s.

St. Louis is second in the majors in both batting average and runs scored per game.

The Cardinals are averaging 5.66 runs per contest. Jon Jay has missed some time with an injury, but he leads the team with a .376 average. Carlos Beltran’s red hot start has made the middle of the lineup as dangerous as it was last season. Beltran already has 12 homers and 31 RBI’s.

David Freese continues to build on the momentum he started in the World Series last year. Adam Wainwright has struggled to regain his old control this season, but he has looked much better the last few times out. The Cardinals have the second best team ERA in all of baseball.

Beachy has been a good story so far this year, but he runs into a terrific offense here. Look for Wainwright and the Cardinals to get the job done.
