Atlanta

Now the Braves have lost their last three games though and things could start to tighten up pretty quickly if the losing continues. Since hot starts UT Evan Gattis and OF Justin Upton have disappeared. Gattis has a reasonable excuse since he has been on the diabled list since the middle of June.

Upton seems to have vanished into thin air with just one homer and 8 RBI in the month of June.

There was a late switch and Saturday’s supposed starter Paul Maholm went yesterday and took the loss. Now the Braves are looking to Tim Hudson to stop the losing streak. Hudson has not been as effective this year and age might be creeping into his game.

He has never failed particularly well against Philadelphia including is first start of the season when he took the loss against the Phils and didn’t even pitch 5 innings. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Hudson has always been a favourite of mine and a big winner but it appears those days are coming to a close. Wager carefully.

Philadelphia

With so many names you know Philadelphia is a tease. There are a lot of rumours swirling around the club the most recent that venerable 2B Chase Utley might be on his way out the door. Utley may not be the player we all remember, or want him to be, but he is hitting .280 and is second on the club in homers so if they lose him it will hurt.

With starter Cole Hamels seemingly rounding into form it is possible management waits a little longer to see what this team is really made of.

It would be fun to see 1B Ryan Howard get the mojo going and he has just owned Hudson throughout his career – 7 career homers.

In a challenging season starter Kyle Kendrick has been a relative bright spot for Philadelphia. With a 7-5 record already he is well on his way to eclipsing his career high win total of 11 and is likely to set a career high in innings and WHIP too.

Throughout his career he has been just fantastic against Atlanta with a 7-1 record and an ERA under 3 – though he has not faced them yet this season. Kendrick’s numbers are much better at home and he will welcome some cheese steaks after pitching 4 of his last 5 on the road.

His overall numbers would be even better were it not for a start at Colorado which was regrettable and forgettable. He is certainly not the first to do that.

Kendrick vs. Hudson but now Kendrick is the more reliable performer. The Braves are snakebit with many regulars reall struggling, thank goodness they have guys like 1B Freddie Freeman and 2B Dan Uggla to pick up the slack.

Still I am more confident on the Philadelphia side even thought their lineup has been nothing to brag about this season.

The pitching will be the difference.

O/U Pick:
Score Prediction: Philadelphia 4 – Atlanta 3
