The Houston Astros head to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia for a four game series with the Phillies. Game 1 is scheduled for tonight at 7:05 p.m.

Houston is coming off a weekend series with Marlins, having lost two out of three games. The Astros are currently 54-69 on the year and 16 games in back of Cincinnati in the NL Central. They are 22-36 straight up on the road and against the spread as an underdog 34-56. Against the ‘over/under` line they are 54-61-7 with the total going ‘over` in eight of the Astros last nine games on the road.

On the mound tonight for Houston is former Phillies pitcher Brett Myers. On the year Myers is 8-7 with a 3.11 ERA in 25 starts. Last time out he gave up seven hits and two earned runs in seven innings of work against the Mets. This will be his first career start against his former team.

The Astros bats have been one of their primary problems as they are ranked 15th in the NL with a team batting average of just .245 and have only scored a total of 468 runs which is an average of 3.80 runs per game.

Philadelphia has won seven of its last 10 games including taking two out of three from Washington over the weekend. The Phillies are now 70-53; 2 ½ games behind Atlanta in the NL East division race but two games up in the wildcard race. They are 42-22 SU at home and 52-38 ATS as the favorite. Against the ‘over/under` line they are 59-62-2. The total has gone over in four out of their last five games against Houston at home.

Joe Blanton will get the start tonight for Philadelphia. In 20 previous starts this season he is 5-6 with a 5.54 ERA. In his last game he pitched 6.1 innings, giving up eight hits and two earned runs in a win over San Francisco. Lifetime against the Astros, Blanton is 1-0 with an ERA of 4.15.

With Chase Utley and Ryan Howard off of the DL, the Phillies’ lineup is finally back to full strength. Howard leads the team with 82 RBI and 23 HR’s. As a team they are ranked seventh in the NL in hitting with a batting average of .259. They are ranked third in the league in scoring with 579 runs.

Philadelphia has won five of the last six games between these two teams and is 6-3 against the Astros in its last nine games played at home. Blanton looked pretty good his last time out and the Phillies big bats are back in the lineup. This all points to a win tonight for the home team.
