The Arizona Diamondbacks wrap up a four game series with the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night with both teams chasing San Francisco for first place in the NL West. The first pitch from Coors Field is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on the MLB Network.

Arizona split a double header with the Rockies on Tuesday and are now 24-24 heading into Wednesday’s Game 3. It got waxed in the early game 12-4 as a 153 road underdog, but returned the favor in the nightcap with a 5-2 win as a 161 underdog. It is now 8-14 on the road this season, but 8-2 overall in its last 10 games.

Stephen Drew leads the Diamondbacks in RBI with 28, while Justin Upton and Chris Young have combined for 48 RBI and 18 home runs to pace the team’s offensive production. Micah Owings will be making his second start of the season on Thursday after holding Minnesota to four earned runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work last Saturday.

Colorado’s win on Tuesday came at a steep price as it lost starter Jorge De La Rosa for the rest of the season with torn ligament in his elbow. His five wins this season have helped the Rockies compile a 24-23 record heading into Wednesday’s game. They are 12-12 on the road and 12-11 at home.

They will now have to rely even more heavily on a lineup that is tied with Arizona for third in the NL in runs scored with 213. Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki have done most of the damage with a combined 60 RBI and 19 home runs. Rookie starter Clayton Mortensen will continue his bid for a full-time spot in the rotation with his fourth start of the year. He has given up 12 hits and six earned runs in 12.2 innings of work in his last two outings.

Head-to-head, the D-Backs have won four of seven this season with the total staying ‘under’ in four of the games. With two young pitchers on the mound the ‘over’ could be the best play in this game, but stick with the Rockies to be on the higher side of the final score.

The Pick: Colorado and OVER
