Arizona (18-28), despite back-to-back victories against division-rival Los Angeles over the weekend, is struggling at home, winning just six of 18 games. St. Louis will counter with Adam Wainwright who is looking to win his fourth straight start on his way to becoming the second seven-game winner in the National League.
The righty held the Atlanta Braves to two runs before closer Trevor Rosenthal blew a save in the ninth inning, in Sunday’s 6-5 loss, which snapped the Cardinals’ four-game winning streak.
Wainwright has allowed just nine hits over his last 24 innings on the mound, but surrendered 11 hits in six innings, giving up four runs in a 5-4 opening day loss to the Diamondbacks in 2013. He is 5-4 in eight career starts with a 2.77 ERA.
