Arizona

They are a game over .500 right now which is probably right where they should be. They lost the opener to San Francisco last night.

They are a surprising +15 in run differential, better than the Giants who are 6 games over the break even mark right now.

Arizona has been a nice surprise in part because of performances from Tuesday starter lefty Patrick Corbin.

Hardly the most touted young arm in their system Corbin has nothing but quality starts this season and the Diamondbacks haven’t lost a game he has started yet.

In his last outing, and best start of the season, he held the Yankees to two hits over 7 innings with 7 punchouts. The D-Backs won the game but he didn’t get the decision.

San Francisco

San Francisco has won their last 4 games including the series opener last night.

They have risen to about the middle of the pack in terms of scoring this season but the pitching has fallen back at the same time – see notes about Matt Cain below. 3B Pablo Sandoval has continued his success from the World Series.

He isn’t going yard like crazy but he is batting over .300 and among league leaders in RBIs with 18. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Starter Matt Cain has not been very good this season.

The Giants haven’t won any of the games he has started this season and in just 4 starts he has already had two horrendous outing giving up 9 and 7 runs respectively.

The outings in between have been good enough to make you think that there is nothing wrong with him physically and perhaps a familiar foe will help get him back on track. Cain is 13-6 against the Diamondbacks in his career with solid peripherals.

It is not a huge value play but I will take my chances that things finally turn for Giants ace Matt Cain. Similarly Corbin has been so good it is hard to envision him continuing his impressive success even if the Giants are far from impressive hitting the ball.

The game should be tight with San Francisco getting a couple of clutch hits to win it late.

Over/Under: Over
Score Prediction: San Francisco 5 – Arizona 3
