2009 AL Central Future Lines: Predictions

Odds To Win The MLB AL Central

The AL Central should be the most wide open race in baseball as three maybe four teams have a legitimate shot to win this division. It will all come down to who has the best pitching late in the summer when there are those “must win” games on the line. Most likely there will be little margin for error, so every win becomes that more important.

Here are predictions and the future odds for the AL Central.

AL Central Baseball Betting Lines

Chicago White Sox + 550: There is no manager more entertaining than Ozzie Guillen, but despite his occasional rants and raves, he knows how to get the most out his team. They are not the most talented team in the division, but they are the best at finding ways to win. This fact always keeps them on or near the top and this season will be no different.

Cleveland Indians +160: Despite losing their ace C.C. Sabathia they still have a very solid rotation. If they can get some consistent, solid outings from some of the younger hurlers, along with a repeat performance from Cliff Lee they will be a tough team to beat. The offense, while not great is good enough to win some games as well.

Detroit Tigers +300: There are some big question marks on this team especially with their pitching staff who have shown some Jekyll and Hyde tendencies in the past. There is still enough overall talent on this team to keep them in the thick of this race as I fully expect them to improve from last season’s 74-88 record.

Kansas City Royals +800: The big question here will be can this team build on the strong finish from last season. While their starting rotation is still suspect, their bullpen should be good enough to get them by some rough spots. They still will need a lot of things to go right to hope to compete in the Central in 2009.

Minnesota Twins +250: This team always seems to find a way to stay in the race. They do not have a ton of marquee players, but do have enough talent to win a fair amount of their games. If they get a couple of breaks here and there, the Twins will be competitive right to the very end.

American League Central Predictions

The AL Central is a crowded pack of good, but not great teams.

This division race it will come down to who can get the most out of the talent that they have.

In a close finish, I see Cleveland emerging from the pack to win the AL Central by 1 to 1 ½ games.
