The preseason odds-on-favorites to meet in this year’s Major League Baseball World Series will be watching the games on TV like the rest of us as the Texas Rangers upset the New York Yankees in the ALCS and the San Francisco Giants did the same to the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS. Both teams won their best-of-seven series in six games and will now meet to decide which team will be crowned this year’s World Series Champion.

The schedule for the best-of-seven series will be as follows:

Game 1-7:30 P.M. (ET) Wednesday, October 27th @ San Francisco
Game 2- 7:30 P.M. (ET) Thursday, October 28th @ San Francisco
Game 3- 6:30 P.M. (ET) Saturday, October 30th @ Texas
Game 4- 8:00 P.M. (ET) Sunday, October 31st @ Texas
*Game 5- 7:30 P.M. (ET) Monday, November 1st @ Texas
*Game 6- 7:30 P.M. (ET) Wednesday, November 3rd @ San Francisco
*Game 7- 7:30 P.M. (ET) Thursday, November 4th @ San Francisco
* If necessary

Before this year’s MLB playoffs began, the odds on a Rangers/Giants matchup in the World Series were 15/1 while the odds on a Yankees/Phillies series were 13/4. Texas opens the series as the slight favorites at minus 135, while San Francisco opens at plus 115. This will be the Rangers first trip the MLB Championship in franchise history, while the last time the Giants made it this far was back in 2002 when they lost the series in seven games to the Los Angeles Angels.

The odds for Wednesday’s Game 1 have the Rangers favored at minus 125 and the Giants at plus 115. The ‘over/under’  is set at 5 ½ minus 110. Left-hander Cliff Lee will get the start for Texas and San Francisco will go with right-hander Tim Lincecum.

Lee has been spectacular this postseason with three wins in three starts and a ridiculous ERA of 0.75. Lincecum has not been as good as Lee, but is still more than capable of shutting a team down. He is 2-1 in his three starts with an ERA of 1.93. With these two guys on the mound, no ‘under’ total is low enough.

Offensively, the edge in this series definitely goes to Texas. In the six games of the ALCS, the Rangers had a .304 team batting average and scored 38 runs; an average of 6.33 runs per game. The Giants on the other hand has a team batting average of .244 and scored 19 runs in their six games of the NLCS.

Josh Hamilton led Texas with seven RBI and four homeruns. Nelson Cruz added five RBI and two HR’s while Michael Young and Elvis Andrus led the team with nine hits each. Cody Ross was a one-man wrecking crew for San Francisco in the NLCS with five RBI and three homeruns, including two off of Roy Halladay in Game 1 of that series. Rookie catcher Buster Posey added three RBI and Freddy Sanchez led the team in hits with nine.

As evenly as these two teams are matched this series has a good chance to go the distance. The outcome could hinge on Lee’s ability to continue his postseason dominance which would guarantee a couple of automatic wins for the Rangers.

Prediction: Ultimately, San Francisco’s struggles at the plate and its inability to consistently score runs will be the difference as Texas wins the 2010 World Series in six games.

I think the game is so complex, that it’s still for grabs… I was in last night’s game and was very surprised to see the Giants step up their game to this new level, even Uribe delivered.
For the Rangers, I was most impressed by Medina’s performance. My prediction is; the SF Giants will take the championship. Just when you think you’ve seen all they got, they surprise you!
