June 22nd, 2009 Top 10 MLB Power Rankings

The 2009 MLB season has been underway for ten weeks now, and Jim. J weighs in with his weekly MLB Power Rankings article for the MLB baseball season…

MLB Power Rankings – Red Sox, Angels and Rockies Heat Up

The Dodgers and Rangers continue to provide gamblers with profits, but it’s the Los Angeles Angels and Colorado Rockies who all of a sudden are becoming hot in the BetUS online sportsbook.

The Angels in particular are starting to look like a difficult team for other A.L. teams to handle. The Red Sox continue to win and the Rockies?

Well, the Rockies are just beating good teams without looking like they’re trying.

Let’s take a look at the MLB Power Rankings.

MLB: Power Rankings

1. Los Angeles Dodgers 45-24 ATS +1851 units 33-36 RL -100 units – – The Dodgers had to play Texas, Oakland and the L.A. Angels during interleague week. They held their own against all three teams and continue to win on the money line, but against the run line, they aren’t doing enough. That means gamblers just need to concentrate on betting them to win.

2. Texas Rangers 37-30 ATS +842 units 35-32 RL +247 units – – The Rangers have started to come back down to earth. This is the first week where they are under +1000 in units won ATS. Going 1 and 2 against the Angels and then fumbling around against the San Francisco Giants, a team they should have beaten easily will do that to you.

3. Boston Red Sox 42-27 +802 ATS 37-32 RL +959 units – – Dice-K has been a huge disappointment so far this year, but the Red Sox haven’t let it bother them. No production from Big Papi, Dice-K throwing like a bum and the Red Sox are still solidifying themselves as the best in the A.L. It’s only a matter of time before they take over second place in the power rankings. Going 2 and 1 against the Phillies, Braves and Marlins is a nice statement to make.

4. Los Angeles Angels 36-30 ATS +742 units 36-30 RL +368 units – – Los Angeles is quickly becoming a force in the A.L. West. They are now only a ½ game behind the Texas Rangers for the lead in the division and more than held their own against the Dodgers in their last series. The Angels face the tough Colorado Rockies in their next series.

5. Detroit Tigers 38-31 ATS +505 units 33-36 RL -319 units – – The Tigers continue to lead in the A.L. Central and no doubt are a much better team then they were last year, but they aren’t getting enough separation in order for gamblers to really believe in them. They went 1 and 2 against the St. Louis Cardinals but then they swept the Milwaukee Brewers. A series against the Chicago Cubs should be very interesting.

6. Milwaukee Brewers 37-32 ATS +438 units 38-31 +745 units – – The sweep against Cleveland keeps them on this list but they book ended that by going 1 and 2 against the Chicago White Sox and getting swept by the Detroit Tigers. They are performing on the run line because a lot of bettors believe that they don’t have good pitching, which is true, but if their bats continue to produce then they will be successful getting 1 ½ runs in most games.

7. San Francisco Giants 36-31 ATS +412 units 39-27 RL +1637 units – – Talk about a team that MLB bettors need to pay attention to on the run line! The Giants swept he A’s before getting thumped by the Angels, but then finishing up the week by sweeping the Rangers was nice. With their pitching, they could be a dark horse in the N.L. if they continue to win.

8. Colorado Rockies 35-33 ATS +397 units 38-30 RL +664 units – – The Rockies have won 9 out of their last 10 games. Who they have beaten in that streak is just as impressive as the streak itself. Pittsburgh isn’t great but Milwaukee, Seattle and Tampa Bay aren’t slouches. This team might be for real.

9. St. Louis Cardinals 39-31 ATS +304 units 36-34 RL +533 units – – The Cardinals get back into the power rankings by going 2 and 1 against the Detroit Tigers and sweeping the Kansas City Royals. They have a key series against the New York Mets coming up. They need to do well in that series in order to continue to be a viable N.L. pennant contender.

10. Toronto Blue Jays 38-33 ATS +284 units 36-35 RL -93 units – – The Blue Jays also get back into the power rankings even though the New York Yankees are ahead of them in the A.L. East. Why? Because they are often times underdogs in games. The Jays swept the Philadelphia Phillies before underperforming against the Washington Nationals last week.

The Dodgers(even without Manny) and the Red Sox have been the class of the MLB so far this season.

As a fan of the NL East, just when you think the Phillies or Mets are ready to join these ranks they go into a losing tailspin.
