The Turf Sprint – Saturday November 6th Post Time: 3:15 P.M. (EST)

The Turf Sprint is a weight for age stakes race for Thoroughbreds age 3 and up. It is contested on a turf track at a distance of five Furlongs with a total prize purse of $1,000,000. There are five automatic bids awarded from wins in a designated Challenge Race for this division and the rest of the field is determined by total points earned over the course of the racing season. The following is a look at a few of the favorites that are expected to run this race.

Chamberlain Bridge

This horse has four victories in seven starts this year. His win in the $125,000 Arlington Sprint Handicap at Arlington Park on June 26 earned him a berth in The Turf Sprint. His biggest win this season was in the $250,000 Turf Monster Handicap at Philadelphia Park on Sept. 6. Last time out he finished fourth in the grade III $100,000 Woodford Stakes at Keeneland.

Quick Enough

This horse won a $36,000 Claiming race at Del Mar on July 25 and a $54,000 Allowance Optional Claiming race at Del Mar on Aug. 5. He earned an automatic “Win on You’re In” entry into The Turf Sprint with a victory in the grade III $100,000 Morvich Handicap at Hollywood Park on Oct. 11. He held off a late charge by Dilemma to win by 1 ½ lengths.

California Flag

Dating back to August of 2008 this horse has won seven of his 11 starts including a victory in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita. This year, California Flag’s biggest victory was a first place finish in the $75,000 Green Flash Handicap at Del Mar on Aug. 18. Last time out he finished a disappointing 11th in the grade III Woodford Stakes at Keeneland.

Silver Timber

The 2010 season has been an impressive run for this seven-year old gelding. He won the grade III $100,000 Churchill Downs Turf Sprint Takes on April 30 and the non-graded $100,000 Wolf Hill Stakes at Monmouth on June 5. His biggest victory this year was in the Woodford Stakes on Oct.9. He ran The Turf Sprint in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup and finished sixth.
