What are you waiting for? Bet NOW! The Turf Sprint is a weight for age stakes race for Thoroughbreds age 3 and up. It is contested on a turf track at a distance of 6.5 Furlongs with a total prize purse of $1,000,000. There are five automatic bids awarded from wins in a designated Challenge Race for this division and the rest of the field is determined by total points earned over the course of the racing season.

The current favorites for this race are as follows:

  1. California Flag: He earned a spot in the Turf Sprint with a win in the Grade 3 Morvich Handicap at Santa Anita. This horse is extremely fast out of the gate and if he gets an early lead he might run away from the field.
  2. Yankee Injunuity: With a win in the Arlington Sprint Handicap at Arlington he earned an automatic bid in the Turf Sprint. He followed this up with a disappointing 6th place finish in the Pennsylvania Governor’s Cup Handicap at Penn National.
  3. Gotta Have Her: The current point leader in this division, this 5 year old mare is set to face off against the males for the first time in her career after a big win in the Senator Ken Maddy Handicap at Santa Anita.
  4. Fleeting Spirit: She finished 4th in last year’s Turf Sprint and a win in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket appears ready to challenge the boys again in this race.
  5. Silver Timber: With four wins in five starts this season including an impressive win in his last start in the Woodford Stakes at Keeneland makes him a serious contender in the Turf Sprint.

Predicted order of finish for the Turf Sprint:

Win– California Flag

Place– Silver Timber

Show– Gotta Have Her
