2009 Breeders Cup Race Preview – The Juvenile Turf

The 2009 Breeders’ Cup will be run on November 6th and 7th from Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia, Ca. This year’s Cup features 14 races over the two day period with 6 races scheduled for Friday and 8 races slated to run on Saturday.

What are you waiting for? Bet NOW! The Juvenile Turf is open to Thoroughbreds age 2 and up. It is contested on a turf track at a distance of 1 mile with a total prize purse of $1,000,000. There are three automatic bids awarded from wins in a designated Challenge Race for this division and the rest of the field is determined by total points earned over the course of the racing season. The current favorites for this race are as follows:

The current favorites for this race are as follows:

  1. Bridgetown: He earned his automatic bid with a win in the Grade 3 Summer Stakes at Woodbine back in September. In his previous outing he won the Maiden Special Weight at Saratoga. He should be one of the favorites for the Juvenile Turf.
  2. Interactif: In a dominating fashion, he won the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland to gain his bid and making him an early favorite for this race. In his previous race he won the With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga going off at 15-1.
  3. Joshua Tree: This Irish bred stud won the Group2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot going off at 12-1 outpacing the field with a strong run. Despite the bid he is questionable for this race.
  4. Codoy: Leading in the points standings, he had a strong showing in the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes with a second place finish.
  5. Becky’s Kitten: Trained by Wesley Ward, his best finish was second to Bridgetown in the Grade 3 Summer Stakes. This horse has the capability to run with the favorites and could be one to watch.
