What are you waiting for? Bet NOW! The Dirt Mile is a weight for age race open to Thoroughbreds age 3 and up. It is contested on a dirt track at a distance of 1 mile with a total prize purse of $1,000,000. There are four automatic bids awarded from wins in a designated Challenge Race for this division and the rest of the field is determined by total points earned over the course of the racing season.

The current favorites for this race are as follows:

  1. Mambo Meister: He earned an automatic bid after winning the Spend a Buck Handicap at Calder in mid October. He had two previous 1st place finishes at Calder in the Big Bubble Stakes in May and the Blazing Sword Stakes in June.
  2. Mr. Sidney: His two big wins this season were at Churchill in the Grade 1 Makers Mark Mile in April and the Grade 2 Firecracker in July. This 5 year old is the son of Storm Cat.
  3. Mastercraftman: With an impressive win in the Group 3 Diamond Stakes on Dundalk’s Polytrack in Ireland on Oct. 2 he will be one of the top favorite for the Dirt Mile.
  4. Chocolate Candy: His big wins came early in the season at Golden Gate Fields in the California Derby and the El Camino Real Derby. Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer believes this horse will be better suited for the Dirt Mile, rather the Classic.
  5. Bullsbay: While qualifying for the Classic with a win in the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga, trainer Graham Motion has opted to run him in the Dirt Mile. In his last outing he finished 3rd in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga as well.

Predicted order of finish for The Dirt Mile:

Win– Chocolate Candy

Place– Mambo Meister

Show– Bullsbay
