The Juvenile Fillies Turf – Friday November 5th Post Time: 4:50 P.M. (EST)

The Juvenile Fillies Turf is open to Fillies age 2 and up. It is contested on a turf track at a distance of 1mile with a total prize purse of $1,000,000. There are three automatic bids awarded from wins in a designated Challenge Race for this division and the rest of the field is determined by total points earned over the course of the racing season. The following is a look at a few of the favorites that are expected to run this race.

Kathmanblu

A win in the $150,000 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland on October 9 punched this filly’s ticket to this year’s Juvenile Fillies Turf as this race was an automatic qualifier as part of the “Win and You’re In” program. She went off as the favorite but had to rally from the ninth position early in the race. An explosive burst down the stretch propelled her to a four length victory over Lauren Bird. Cloneylass finished another 2 ¼ lengths back to take third. This was Kathmanblu’s second victory in four career starts making her one of the early favorites in this race.

New Normal

This horse earned an automatic entry into Juvenile Fillies Turf with a wire-to-wire victory in the grade III $201,200 Natalma Stakes at Woodbine back in September as part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” program. She was able to fend off 4-5 favorite More Than Real down the stretch to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Street Chimes finished third in the eight horse field.

Winter Memories

With an impressive victory in the grade III in the $150,000 Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont Park on October 3, this horse has established herself as the potential odds-on-favorite for this race. Running second to last at two different occasions in this race, jockey Jose Lexcano took her wide past pacesetter Fancy Point at the eighth pole on the way to a dominating 5 ¼ length win. This race was a “Win and You’re In” qualifier for the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

White Moonstone

This filly earned an automatic entry into the Juvenile Fillies Turf by besting a field of five horses in the Meon Valley Stud Fillies Mile in late September. Going off as a 4-5 favorite under jockey Frankie Dettori, she closed from the back to edge out Together by a neck for the win. This was her fourth win in as many starts including victories in three group stakes races. Her previous victory was in the Keepmoat Delivering Community Regeneration May Hill Stakes on September 10 at Doncaster.

Predicted winner of the 2010 Juvenile Fillies Turf: Kathmanblu
