2008 Breeders Cup Ladies Classic

The Breeders’ Cup Ladies Cup Classic is always one of the toughest races on the card for online racebook fans to handicap, we do our best to provide racebook picks to your for the 2008 Breeders Cup Mile…

Breeders’ Cup Odds – Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic

There might actually be more interest in this race than the Breeders’ Cup Classic on October 25th.

Why? Because the brilliant Zenyatta, undefeated and seemingly invincible, will take to the track to quietly run her competition into the ground. Zenyatta is without doubt one of the best racehorses I have ever seen in my life. She’s simply phenomenal. There’s no doubt that she will be the shortest priced favorite out of every single horse running on both days.

How good is Zenyatta? Read below to find out. Of course, I can’t recommend online betting fans put money on Zenyatta at odds lower than what I’ve suggested. If there is ever a time when Zenyatta is going to get upset, it’s this race.

Let’s get to it!

Race-day: 10/24/2008 – Santa Anita – – Race 7
Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic

$2,000,000
For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Up
1 1/8th miles on Pro-Ride

Carriage Trail – – 5/2 fair online odds

Wow. Okay, let me write that one more time. Wow. This five year old mare put it altogether last time for trainer Shug McGaughey in the Grade I Spinster on the Polytrack at Keeneland. How good did Carriage Trail run in that race? She ran six furlongs in 1:11, she was pretty much right on the pace, then she obliterated the field once they got to the top of the stretch. She stopped the clock at 1:46 and change. That’s Ghostzapper time. That’s how fast Carriage Trail ran on the Polytrack. She also lost by only a length in her race before the Spinster to Wait A While on the turf. So, yes, she should be able to run on the Pro-Ride. The key is whether or not she has finally turned the corner. Her last two races were the two best of her life. Her daddy, Giant’s Causeway, almost beat Tiznow in the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2000. Her grandfather on her mother’s side, Seeking the Gold, is known for siring some serious racehorses. This gal is bred to be a champion. Shug may have finally gotten her to the point where she becomes one. She’s almost good enough, and Zenyatta’s odds will be so low, for me to think about singling her on all of my exotic tickets.

Zenyatta – – 3/2 fair online odds

Zenyatta is one of the best racehorses that I have ever seen in my life. I’ve been following this sport since I was 13 years old and rarely do I write that. I thought Azeri was good. Zenyatta is exceptional. How good is Zenyatta? In a 1 1/16th mile race she chased Hystericalady around the track and caught her and beat her by 3 ½ lengths. Hystericalady, who finished second in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic, got away with a 48 and change half mile in the race that Zenyatta won. Hystericalady is a Grade I winner. That’s how good Zenyatta is. She simply glides over any surface imaginable. To make things more difficult for her competitors, Zenyatta has a win over the Pro-Ride surface and eats, drinks and becomes merry right there in a barn at Santa Anita. She literally has to take a stroll over to the track, get into the gate, and simply fly around the turns. At 3/2 or higher she might deserve your entire bank roll.

Music Note – – 6/1 fair online odds

This daughter of A.P. Indy will be carrying the Godolphin banner in this race. She got back to where she’s comfortable, going 1 1/8th miles, in her last race and that should set her up beautifully for this. On paper, her speed ratings are akin to both Zenyatta and Carriage Trail. Experience is another story. She’s a three year old facing some pretty good four and five year olds in her. As good as Music Note has been, a lot of things will have to go her way for her to put away Carriage Trail in the stretch and then hold off Zenyatta for the win money. She can do it, no doubt, but she’s going to need luck.

Cocoa Beach – – 6/1 fair online odds

Cocoa Beach finally came into her own in her last race. She also runs for the mighty Godolphin stable. She beat Ginger Punch on the square in her last race and I love how she can track 3 lengths behind the speed and then turn it on when she needs to in the stretch. Godolphin went out and found this filly in Chile. They took her to their Nad Al Sheba racetrack and ran her there for a while before sending her off to the United States for a $90,000 stakes race. She destroyed the competition in that and then really looked impressive beating Ginger Punch in her last. She could improve enough to challenge for a top three placing.
