Sentient Flight Group Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint

Even though only pre-entries have been drawn for the 2088 Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, it’s time for online racebook fans to get down, and maybe a little dirty, and start handicapping these races.

Because the Breeders’ Cup is a full two days, online sportsbook betting fans need to start their strategy early. That involves handicapping each individual race for winners, second place finishers, and third place finishers.

Some races might require a look at that fourth place finisher.

Let’s get to the first race on the October 24th card!

Race-day: 10/24/2008 – Santa Anita – – Race 3

Sentient Flight Group Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint

$1,000,000
For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Up
7 furlongs on Pro-Ride

Analysis: There is an abundance of speed in this race. Even though the likely chalk, Indian Blessing, has shown the ability to rate she may find herself in a tough position turning for home. The issue is whether or not she lets the speed get away from her. How far back can Blessing possibly rate? If she allows the speed to just go crazy, they may hang on at the top of the stretch. If she goes with the speed, she may not have a kick left. I have studied the Pro-Ride surface intently these past few weeks, trying to get a handle on how things could shake out in these races.

Speed is close to being king on the Pro-Ride. Denying that could end up costing online betting fans dearly in the Breeders’ Cup.

Indyanne – – 4/1 fair online betting odds

There’s speed and then there’s speed. This filly out of Indian Charlie is the fastest thing I’ve seen in a long time. She ran a 44 and change half mile on the Keeneland Polytrack and kept going. In fact her lone loss occurred when the jockey tried to harness her speed. Let her go and watch her run her competition into the ground. Yes, the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint came up with a lot of speed but what online racebook fans need to realize is that the speed isn’t early speed. Nobody in this race will get away with a 44 and change half mile save for Indian Blessing. Does Blessing have the guts to throw down with this girl? I doubt it. In fact I’d make her a single on my exotic tickets if she ran on Saturday against the boys.

Indian Blessing – – 3/1 fair online odds

As much of a case as I’ve tried to make about not making an online horse bet on Indian Blessing, the fact remains that she is the most talented filly in this field. Hands down. Yes, she has never faced a filly quite like Indyanne, but then again, she’s proven her class time and time again. She’s just a winner. Those horses are tough to beat. But with that being written, I can’t endorse at online odds of less than 3 to 1. There’s just no other way to write this. The chances of her going off at 3 to 1 or higher in this race aren’t very good. If, for some strange reason, like the North and South poles suddenly shift, and Blessing does go off 3 to 1, I’ll be the first logging onto my computer and making a huge online wager. I promise.

Intangaroo – – 6/1 fair online odds

Let’s say that the speed does get to Indyanne. Let’s say that Indian Blessing’s jock, the brilliant Garret Gomez, decides to go with Indyanne and Dearest Tricksi. Let’s say that for some strange reason the Pro-Ride surface at Santa Anita isn’t favoring speed. Then who picks up the pieces? The Grade I winning Intangaroo who was sired by former sprint champion Orientate. She has the ability to sweep four or five wide around the turn and still win this. But a lot of things will have to happen for her to do that.

Dearest Tricksi – – 8/1 fair online odds

The good news regarding Dearest Tricksi is that she has won 11 out of 16 lifetime races. Count them. Eleven. The bad news is that her only real shot in this is if Indyanne is off her game. Could it happen? I’m not saying it couldn’t. Tricksi has won on every surface imaginable except turf. That means that out of every other contender in here, it’s Trickski that has the ability to take her game from Polytrack to cushion track to conventional dirt to Pro-Ride. Another advantage is the fact that Trickski simply takes a van ride from trainer John Sadler’s barn at Hollywood Park to Santa Anita. She won’t have to acclimate herself one bit. She’s got a puncher’s chance.
